Thought I'd throw this out there as an FYI since others might be looking into pre-K at Mt. Washington too. Apparently they no longer have a pre-K program...it has moved over to Roland Park.

Interesting - thanks for the info - does Roland Park have slots? In that case, Mt. Washington may be the only non-charter City school without PreK.

I should also add that PreK in the City works differently than in other grades in that any child that lives in the City can attend any school that has a PreK slot available to them. So you could live in Mount Washington, and send your child to PreK in Roland Park, at one of the Charles Village schools, at Medfield Heights, etc., and then start your child at Mt. Washington in K. The key is to get enrolled/express interest in PreK enrollment as soon as you can and see who has slots available, even if you don't end up enrolling in the end. PreK in the City is generally pretty solid, even if you don't end up staying at the school long-term: a great way to save money if you can find a spot....make sure to ask about afterschool care though as you look at schools, as some are not able to provide afterschool care for PreK aged children.

When I called last week, Roland Park had already enrolled 18 students for pre-K (from the first round, which only takes low-income I believe), 25 additional students were on the waitlist, and only 20 slots were available. I didn't realize non-residents of the district could get in. That certainly explains the hefty waitlist! I was encouraged to still apply, so I'm planning to stop by and get a packet next week. I will make sure to ask about afterschool care for preK.
