Not all young people who grow old don't become conservative...look at Bill Ayers and his wife (who've I met personally).

Wash, rinse, repeat.

But I no longer whine about folks pulling the tattered, battered, worn-out race card despite 45 yrs. of quotas, set-asides, and lowered expectations on standardized tests. Doesn't do any good to whine about the permanent entitlement mindset. It's solidly fixed into our culture.
White entitlement or the mythical
black entitlement?

The set asides and quotas you mentioned
were carried out in a reluctant, half-assed
manner most of the time.

The problem is a lot of members of the larger
population in the U.S. want it all so any gestures
made to share the wealth are met with hostile
resistance.

You mean like giving blacks 20 points on college admissions' tests for being black?

Correct. Some people die before they are old enough to figure it out.

Sure, but I think the rules are changing a bit. Probably in response to the changing demographics (whites are going to be a minority group in the next few generations, so the "one-drop" thing wouldn't be very helpful in terms of political power like it used to be).

The one-drop rule was certainly the norm for much of our history, but now its more acceptable for mixed race folks to deny their blackness and identify as "other" or "both." You also see more whites use the term "half-white" (especially when referencing Obama).

Whether society sees Brown as black or not, him coming off as not wanting to identify as black all of a sudden (same thing for many other mixed race folks) is an insult to many blacks.

Assuming that college is a worthwhile endeavor, if progressive admissions policies increase minority matriculation by accepting additional marginal students all of whom lack the aptitude to complete their coursework, then we would observe an equal increase in failed minority graduation. Given that this is not observed, we are forced to consider that there were a set of good students who succeeded (graduated) from this group of additional students who would otherwise would not have been given the opportunity but for the progressive admission policy. I’m not endorsing one policy’s implementation/tactics over another, but I am defending the overall goals of such policies.

Really? Cites, if you please.

And then of course there are cases like Pat Chavis who got 34 on his medical boards while Bakke got 90. Chavis was accepted while Bakke was rejected, and "passed" all his courses and was awarded his MD. Ted Kennedy danced in the aisle.

Fast fwd. a few years after Chavis killed a patient and set the State record for malpractice suits, his license to practice medicine was lifted.

Yep, affirmative action.
