Astros started again by singing the same old song. Pitching coughs up runs in the first inning, and then the offense has to be forced to work from behind. Now we're in the sixth inning of Game 2 with Kansas City and the 'Stros were chipping away at the Royals' lead. And here's KC adding to its lead once again. Somehow, this really should be the other way around, with the Astros supposedly doing more to expand their lead over the Royals. That isn't how this is turning out.

Houston is playing uninspired baseball against lesser teams. This must stop.

Well,.........................hold the phone.

It's the 7th now, and when the Astros get it going, they really get it going. This game is at a 6-6 tie, and Houston is threatening to get a lead for the first time in this series.

They almost caught them in the ninth, but the end result for the three vying teams was the same as in the previous day...losses all around.

Theoretically though, it might be seen as being worse for the Astros because they are burning through games against the worst teams....the games that they should be winning.

Astros didn’t capitalize on their opportunity in the first in this Sunday 9/17 game, but they did in the third and lead 2-1 after three. Meyers added a solo HR in the fourth, and Alvarez just hit a solo HR in the fifth, and it’s 4-1 Astros.

They have what looks like will be a golden opportunity to pick up a game on the Rangers.

Bradford was pitching well for the Rangers through three, with one hit, no runs, and 36 pitches…….then he fell apart in the fourth……threw 28 pitches in the fourth, didn’t get anyone out, and gave up HR, single, double, single, single, single and leaving with 3 runs scored and the bases loaded. Then Hernandez came in and he recorded 26 pitches to 8 batters with two more singles, a double, an intentional walk, and a hit by pitch, and 6 more runs scored and three outs…..making it 9-1 Guardians.

Mariners game hasn’t started.

Love it !!!!!

Astros add three insurance runs in the top of the ninth, and Graveman gets an eight pitch one hit bottom of the ninth and the Astros win 7-1.

And the Mariners are losing to the Dodgers 4-0 in the second inning.

It's about time Houston actually came to play. They'd been making the Royals look real good the last few days, but it was different today. Execution and good pitching were the keys in Sunday's game. Now, it's back to MMP for the Orioles.

Miraculously and incredibly, the Astros remain in first place despite the carnage left behind. They had no business losing consecutive series to last-place teams.

You’re right, they didn’t.

The Mariners lost 6-1 today to the Dodgers .

So the Astros gained on both the Rangers and the Mariners……now 1 1/2 ahead of the Rangers and 2 1/2 ahead of the Mariners.

12 more scheduled regular season games for the Astros.

After being so frustrated with their play, I took a break from the Astros for a couple of weeks. Decided to come back and follow this game against the Orioles and see if they had got their act together for this stretch run. But it seems to be the same old, same old. When they score runs the pitching lets them down; when the pitching does show up the hitting is nowhere to be found. So once again tonight they managed to pull defeat from the jaws of victory thanks to the bullpen.

I've been a Houston fan ever since they were the Colt 45s and I listened to their games on a transistor radio in bed over WWL in New Orleans. But more than just about any other, this season has me thinking about calling it quits for now and seeing what next year looks like.

The Astros are clearly struggling to keep up with Baltimore's tough lineup. The problem continues to be our gas-can pitching staff, and they're not nearly as good as last year's brilliant performance. Offensively, it's a little bit here and a little bit there, but not as explosive as it had been briefly against the Rangers recently.

I won't give up on these guys, but time is running out. The series they're in right now is the real test of whether or not they have what it takes to be a champion. Do they want to defend their title? That zeal just doesn't seem to be there.

Seems odd to me that, with all three teams off the next day and two of the three staying at home Friday ++ (Seattle and Texas playing each other....both can't be at home), all three have day games today.
