Speaking of the Lakers, they should follow in the Celtics & Knicks footsteps and just completely blow the team up. What's the trade pick to Phoenix the next 2 seasons MathGuy: Top 5 protected this year; top 3 protected in 2016 than unprotected thereafter??

They'll pick up the Rockets deep 1st round pick this year.
There is no incentive for them to get better too fast becasue Orlando stupidly gave the Lakers a phase out on the 2017 (top 5 protected) first round pick which turns into 2 (worthless) 2nd round picks after.
So, it's totally in the Lakers interest to SUCK this year, next year and in 2017 because then they get to keep 2 of those 3 picks. Otherwise, if they are better by 2017 they only keep one of those 3 picks.
If the Lakers aren't a bottom 5 team in 2017 then their fans should be pissed because they essentially just handed a top pick away to Orlando for essentially nothing.
I think they are trying to emulate the Cleveland blueprint of sucking for a couple years THEN bringing in the free agents...but the earliest for that is 2018.
What else you got to sell skyboxes after Kobe retires in 2 years?
I have much respect for the Lakers but you guys really have no idea of how long of a rebuild you are in for at this stage of the game.
They're currently at the point where the Knicks were 2 years ago....maybe worse.
If the team is going to be bad then they need to be bad. Adding Kevin Love will make the Lakers the Pacific's version of Love's Timberwolves. Bad enough to miss the playoffs, but not bad enough for high draft picks. That doesn't help the team at all.

I figured they might just bring in Love and give him zero support....plus a new coach etc.
In reality, after thinking about it further....
2015: Kobe retirement road-show, part 1.
2016: part 2
2017: Hey look at the new kids we drafted in 2015 etc! (Stay a bottom 5 team)
2018: Either repeat 2017 or make a rebuilding move in free agency.
2019: Ditto
2020: Ditto
Those later years depends upon luck with lottery balls, who is available in free agency and how draft picks develop (or don't).
I still can't believe the Thunder may miss the playoffs
I can't believe the NBA season is ending soon. Did the players go on strike or something?
We haven't even had the Slam Dunk Championship!
