Hi everyone,

I am considering relocating to the Baton Rouge area to work at Our Lady of Lake hospital. I'm wondering if anyone could give me any advice about the surrounding neighborhood and how safe it might be? Also how affordable/ safe the neighborhood might be nearby? I know nothing about Louisiana so any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Baton Rouge is a wonderful place. Are you looking to rent a home, rent an apartment or buy?

To rent- How affordable is it to live there I hear it can be expensive? Are there any areas you would recommend avoiding or areas that you might recommend? I don't expect to live in most pristine environment or anything just hoping that if i were to move that i could find a decent spot that's not too pricey but not too dangerous either. Also how frequently do you experience hurricanes and do people in baton rouge end up having to evacuate a lot? Might sound silly but like i said i know nothing about the area and any information is appreciated. Thanks again.

Where are you from? Baton Rouge isn't expensive compared to some other peer cities. As long as you generally stay south of Florida Blvd (Hwy 190), you will be fine. The best thing to do would be to look up potential properties and ask us if the area is any good.
We have never evacuated. We might get a severe storm every 10 years on average. Just how other cities get earthquakes and terrible blizzards.

It's a nice area. The only sketchy part of that area is Bles Avenue and parts of Hyacinth east of Staring....and mostly they are just junky spots in an otherwise nice area. Not dangerous.

I used to work at The Lake. That's a nice area. I lived north of that area, which was also nice. Where I lived I was paying 850 all inclusive. A sibling lived in the same community until recently and she was paying about 900 all inclusive. There are several apartment communities right on Essen Lane, and one or two are directly across from The Lake. I think they give discounts to Lake employees, too.

Good luck!
