I am moving to the Big Island this month from AZ. What are the requiremements for shipping my gun collection and a few cases of unopen ammo in my container? I have looked on Hawaii's gun laws site and it isnt specific other than fireams brought into the state be registered within 72 hours...Even my shipper isnt sure. Thanks in advance.

I was a dupont brat, we moved about every 1.5 yrs, I learned years ago to put rifles in the boxes with a clothes rod in 'em, along with a lot of clothes and wrap the rifle, or shotgun in a blanket. If they don't know it's there, they will move it. I think it falls under the "don't ask, don't tell" thing.

The fireams is supposed to be in a secure box. Most people don't. Your goods may be sitting on a dock or in a storage yard before shiping and upon arrival so this is more for security. It is also subject to inspection for hazadious or dangerious content before loading on yje ship and subject to invasive species inspection in Hawaii.
Technically you are supposede to declare anything with gunpowder. Under a certain limt of ammunition, there may not be a surchage based on the ship carrier. Declaring it is important because random detection for explosives occur and if you say there is no gunpowder and it's detected, your load can be sent for hand inspection and miss the sailing.
Are you using one of the regular Hawaii shippers or just a movng company since they don't know?

When I came home from Fort Hood, TX; all the movers did was annotate make, model, and serial number, and dollar value and packed it (in the original gun packaging) with the rest of my household goods. Once your household goods get to Hawaii you have 72 hours to take the unloaded firearms to the police department for registration.
