This is it. Madison people like to complain about having to use two lane roads in their commutes, when we mainly have the luxury of several interstates, multi lane highways and byways in the Birmingham area, but this road is a throwback to a time when this particular area was very rural and the county has been derelict in keeping up with the demand of 12,000 vehicles a day.

Oh yeah, there are no usable/very little shoulders. And oh yeah I have seen some fools biking on it from time to time.

The best part is the crazy intersection at South Shades Crest where everybody from Hoover, Bessemer, and Helena come together at this tiny DERELICT gas station. The weird angles and sharp turns and different elevation make it seem as if it weren't even designed for modern vehicles, or vehicles at all. The little JPEG there shows part of what I mean, but you have to see it to believe it - it is ridiculous.

Is the little barber shop still up there by the gas station?

Luckily I have other options and am rarely on it during rush, but if improved would help quite a bit.

No, they moved a bit further down the road next to a daycare. The old location is condemned for right of way.

I drove this road (52) daily for 10 years. You also had to watch out for the beavers across from the driving range deciding to cross the road. Used a lot of clutch up on that hill below the red light, going north.
