i agree it should be a goal to reduce the number of municipalities in jefferson county, but i also don't think we need to annex just for the sake of a population increase (which would be temporary / artificial at best).

the exterior framing on 20 Midtown looks to be almost complete:

Jefferson County library system was doable. A sign agreement between cities to not poach businesses from each other was another doable step. Combining services (911, fire, police, trash/garbage pickup, EMT's) should be a no brainer. So it comes down to schools. 32 cities/towns, plus unincorporated areas are under the Jefferson County school systems while 11 cities have their own.

Fire / police seems like it would be an easy one, but I imagine there are a lot of Mountain Brook, Homewood, and Vestavia police that like that they really don't have to do anything except write tickets. I'm sure there would be a lot of people bringing crime into the discussion then.

IIRC, Louisville was about to consolidate while leaving the school districts intact. Been awhile since I've read up on their effort but I recall seeing that issue being addressed.

That's a crucial distinction that would have to be addressed for it to ever have a chance to fly around here. About the only thing left would be the golden parachutes given to all the chiefs and top brass of each department to mosey on down the road once HamJeff Central is established.

And that's was with EIGHTY-FOUR municipalities in Jefferson County Kentucky. And all 11 cities here who formed their own school system goes back under the Jefferson County School System.

I would have like to seen that phase at about the same height as the Liberty National building next door.

I'm glad to see it happening. That was a long delay. I hope they can still manage a solid retail component.

I noticed today that Rock N Roll Sushi is opening where Chronic Tacos used to be on 5th Ave S behind the Kirklin Clinic.
