Almost all of the events have been well attended.

Here's the significance of this. It proves that, logistically, Birmingham is fully capable of hosting events of a larger scale beyond the occasional football game or basketball tournament. The civic response has been incredible and -- knock on wood -- there hasn't been a major hitch so far.

I heard a lot more people are coming in this weekend as well. Closing ceremonies are supposedly going to be on a similar scale like opening ceremonies.

Anyway, I'm glad they waited because it looked like they wanted to gather some footage and interviews of these games, rather then fill in with previous games from other countries. But I also think they should have said something earlier when they started. Or maybe they did and I missed it.

Overall though, the segment was what I was hoping for and exceeded my expectations.

Okay, so... tug of war is lit.

I'm fairly certain these Chinese women could snatch a house off the slab with enough rope.

Nice column by John Archibald:

Was the World Games worth it?

I agree with him. The Games exceeded my expectations. I loved seeing athletes from around the world, as well as Birmingham residents filling the stands. It's been a great 10 days.

This really couldn't have gone much better for Birmingham. The international visitors seemed to have loved it. Birmingham proved it can achieve a lot.

It's a unbelievable 11 days in Birmingham. The vibe, the unity, the fans support, the volunteers, etc.

This don't happen everyday around here. Glad I can say I witnessed it with my own eyes. I'm ready for everything that comes after this.

Yep. I'm so happy with how this turned out. And as a bonus, it gives us a chance to tell the lazy, naysaying mossbacks in this city and state to stick it where the sun don't shine. Screw those guys.

My wife and I were volunteers and had all kinds of conversations with visitors from all over. And their only complaint was the heat.
