While we slept

Posted 08-31-2015 at 05:46 PM by Fortoggie

WHILE WE SLEPT; Tens of thousands of displaced people have been making their way through the night out of the mid east and into all parts of Europe, trying to find a place of refuge , a place where they can find water, food, shelter and freedom from bombs and weapons of destruction. These are business people, lawyers, doctors and educators and people of every rank and file of society. They are old and young, rich and poor, healthy and unhealthy. Their life has been disrupted and going en masse as...

What can the church do/

Posted 07-12-2015 at 05:45 AM by Fortoggie

The world of work is quickly changing and every month, worldwide, thousands are losing their jobs and incomes to robots, to computerization and to dozens of other systems. Even in China and India where labor is still cheap, jobs are eliminated because new technology makes economical sense even if labor costs is not the major concern.
Here in the mid-south [ especially in southeast Tennessee ] we see a temporary increase in jobs, mainly because industry has been able to find cheaper labor...

What maps teach us

Posted 05-09-2015 at 04:22 AM by Fortoggie

WHAT THE MAPS TEACH US. Tonight I am looking over a map that has had millions of hours [ over 45 years ] and billions of dollars spent on its development. Its a satellite map of the world. Our focus in on the mid-east, where we see a small fertile rim stretching from part of Israel through Jordan,Syria then curving southeast, following the
Tigris and Euphrates rivers through Baghdad into Kuwait.
In the beginning the US kept all the information to itself but in time realized that others...

Does Volcker Have it Right?

Posted 04-21-2015 at 04:39 AM by Fortoggie

Paul Volcker, the former Fed Chairman gave a rare interview last week and I expected him to talk about economic issues. Instead he said the real issues and threat to human existence was global warming which has already led to massive migration.
Mix in drought, famine and bad political environments plus the population explosion [ 4 babies born every second, which leads to 345,600 per day ] and you have an untendable situation.
Europe has already absorbed tens of millions with thousands...
