I am in San Diego County, and it appears I will be relocating to the Treasure Valley soon. We're looking forward to our move there, and I used to live in Meridian. There are good restaurants in the Boise area; however after living a majority of my life in San Diego, I'd have to say the best Mexican food that I've ever had is here in San Diego. It will be a good move for us, and we are looking forward to relocating to the Boise area. I will be picking up some carne asada before I go north..

Hey OuttaCal, Good luck!! I'm from San Diego as well and am also moving to Idaho, Eagle to be exact. My home is currently in construction and I'll be a permanent resident by next year. I will miss Roberto's, but not Jerry Brown

We don't have much crime here because most folks hunt and/or own firearms. If you're a criminal type you would be a fool to break into the average Idahoans home as you may find yourself to be the victim.

Trace, I agree with you 100% regarding Jerry Brown, and I'm looking at both Meridian and Eagle. I lived there years ago, and we're looking forward to the move this summer. Good luck to you also.

I'm born and raised in San diego (believe me, a lot of people ask "why" am I moving) but I always say the same thing, too many A-Holes, too much B.S., too many taxes, not enough cooperation and too much traffic. It's just not the same place I grew up in over the last 44 years. Did I mention the 10 BILLION (soon to be 16 BILLION dollar deficit vice the 85 Million dollar surplus??

The area is wonderful, kind people, fairly easy traffic (Eagle Road can be challenging during rush hour), all 4 seasons. I am building my home in Eagle which is north of Meridian. An awesome community and filled with ex-Californians looking for a better life.

From my perspective, I've noticed that "neighborhoods" or "undesirable areas" don't seem to exist. Nor do the "High End" or "Rich" peoples areas. You can be in Eagle, for instance and own a home in the $200K range as well as the $2 Million range, even in the same neighborhood sometimes. It's not like here where you know Rancho Santa Fe is Ultra Rich and La Jolla isn't far behind. Also, areas of high crime, like downtown Los Angeles (I went to USC) don't really exist. I'm sure there are "pockets" of activity here and there, but for the most part, most areas I've been in aren't bad at all, even in Caldwell where many here say there are some very shady areas. Believe me, nothing is like Compton, nothing.

I'm currently driving between Eagle and Middleton for business. I used to think Middleton was "out there" but really, it's only 13 miles from State and Eagle Rd.. You pass through Star in between. The drive is beautiful. Sometimes I think the old rotted out barns need to be scrubbed, but in a way, they add some character as well, something you don't see a lot of here in the concrete jungle.

I notice a lot of families, people walking, riding their bikes and having a good time. I'm sure there are people that want to keep up with the "Jones's", but for the most part, nobody really cares if you live in a million dollar pad or a $100K pad. They care more about whether you're into Boise State football or not . It's a hidden Gem in my opinion, not too rainy, not too hot, not very humid, not much snow or extremely cold winters, just the right mix of industry and more High Tech than most believe Idaho has to offer. Restaurants galore, all the shopping you really need yet all the privacy you can want. Family Values are strong and the area is a bit more conservative than liberal. At least I know my vote will count for something here. I'll be moving up mid 2013 but my home will be completed around October/November of this year. I feel like I'm back "home" when I'm there now and just traveling when I'm here.
To a lot of us arrogant, traffic causing, over-taxed fellow Californians "Better" doesn't mean a town of 100,000 in the middle of nowhere. I'd rather drive off a cliff than move to Boise, ID.

Boise isn't exactly "middle of nowhere" Its the state capital, the largest city in Idaho and I believe over 200k population, thank you very much.
If you're happy in CA where most of the population doesn't bother to speak english, or speaks with a broken accent, overpaying for real estate and having rude people around you, then I'm happy for you. Please stay in CA, don't move to Boise like so many other dissatisfied Californians (including myself) have done.
I, for one am thrilled that I made the decision to move. I don't miss anything about CA

We can arrange that.

(If you look at all his other posts, he's not a king of politeness either, but he loves him some San Diego. (Though hell, their weather is like you set a thermostat. Amazing climate.))
