I started re-reading all of his books back in May. I've read 23 so far. It's been a learning experience. Now that I'm older I enjoy those books of his that I never finished because I didn't like them. When the Talisman first came out I gave up after only a couple of pages. The stupidity of my youth. Now I love The Talisman.

Just finished Dolores Claiborne and I enjoyed it so much better this time around. Now it's time for Misery.
I loved The Talisman (written with Peter Straub)...such a good book. I never got around to reading their sequel though (Black House). Did anyone here read that??

Hehehe, I've read both series and that's about spot on. ^_^

I would also suggest Different Seasons for non-horror Stephen King. Oh, and Rose Madder. That was an interesting book

But not The Green Mile? I kind of have my heart set on that one.

I'm a bit gun-shy of Different Seasons because I've been reading a lot of short stories. I know that Different Seasons are four novellas -- not short stories -- but I'm just tired of the short and sweet. I want some meat to dig into.

I'll look into Rose Madder too.

Thanks!

I can't recomment Green Mile because I've never read it. I hear it's good, but long. My daughters liked it.

Yes, I read Black House. It was just okay and nowhere as good as The Talisman. I thought that Straub's Floating Dragon was one of the best horror books I have ever read.

I think you would really like Rose Madder. It's one of my fav books and I have read it several times over the years. It gets a little weird toward the end but I enjoyed that, too.

The Green Mile is excellent.

Different Seasons is....well....different. I liked three of the stories a lot but one of them put me off and I'm not certain why.

Dolores Claiborne is another great character study. Character development, IMO, is his forte. He fills them in completely. By the time I finish a King book I feel like I personally knew all the folks in the book.

Ditto that.
I can't remember much about it other than the kid had grown up, was a cop or detective and didn't remember much about his talisman adventure.

Rose Madder was another book that gave me a bit of an unexpected jolt while reading.

For those who have only seen the movies...they are NOTHING compared to the books. The only exception, I would say, is Misery. Damn that Kathy Bates rocked that movie. But usually after reading the book, I'll watch the movie and be disappointed. I understand the movie can only be so long...

I think I saw that Bag Of Bones is going to be on t.v. at some point? I don't remember the channel but I swear I saw a commercial...anyone know?
