Your tax dollars pay for an undivided interest in those books, not the whole book.

What irks me is that libraries sell these books and when you go to the library the shelves are practically bare and you have to request an "interlibrary loan" to get the book you want. In fact, I have been to library sales where there are MORE BOOKS FOR SALE than there are in the library. What the heck? There should be no shame in having OLD books in the library. In fact, the *best* libraries I have ever been to have been big, huge libraries with lots and lots and lots of OLD books in them.

Lol!

I hope you stop by my library. The police will be taking you out in handcuffs...if the the ladies who run the book sales don't beat you senseless first.

If those ladies need help, I'll be there with my heavy purse but as to beating the OP senseless, this thread has already shown he has little sense to spare.

If a government agency is disposing of surplus property, they have a fiduciary responsibility to do it in a manner to benefit taxpayers. Selling those items is how they do it, they can not simply give it away. Would you be happy if the librarian gave away extra books to her friends? Or if the police chief's son was cruising around in a former squad car?

Anything being sold by anybody is a scam. The reason it is being offered for sale benefits . . . whom? The seller, or the prospective buyer?

If that were true, there would be no one selling anything to anyone.

Selling something for money just avoids the inefficiencies of barter, which only works if we both have items of equal value to swap. I sell something to you that you need or want to get money to buy something I need or want. Both you and I benefit. It's only a scam if the thing being sold is not what the seller holds it up to be.

The dude that I bought my flipflops from gets $10 to buy whatever he needs. I get some protection from the hot sand and pebbles that annoy my tender feet. Me happy, he happy. No scam here.

Yep, they do have that right.
not where I work once a material is admitted to the collection its pretty hard for it to come out of it(unless a signed copy comes of the same edition in which case we keep both prints sometimes)
