Totally Amped I moved to Boston!!! I Just moved to Boston a week ago and went to the Paradise Music Club the other night to check out the local scene and was blown away by this jazz funk trio band, OTIS GROVE, not only did they bring the funk, but they've been known to play with crazy katz like Charlie Hunter and Medeski! Stoked to catch them again at their cd release party October 15 @ Lizard Lounge (anyone going?)! Are they well-known locally? Seems like they had a following from out of town as well.

Any other local funky/jazzy/rock bands you recommend?

I occasionally work with the lead singer of the Bad Rabbits. They are apparently a very good Boston band. Being an older person, when I listen to their music, I hear a lot of P Funk, Prince and other old school bands influencing their style. So I'd rather just listen to the original bands.

There's a local rockabilly group I like called The Raging Teens. They don't play out often, but I try to catch them when they do.

Cool - Bad Rabbits is on my list, as well as The Raging Teens. Rockabilly isn't as much my thing, but I'm all about supporting local, live music. Anyone else into hip-hop? Got anything good and local to recommend? Is Mr. Lif well-known? I looked up the release show for Otis Grove and he'll be their special guest. He's on Wikipedia, so he has to be somewhat known, right?

I'm not familiar with Mr. Lif, but being on Wikipedia is no big deal. Anyone can create page on anyone or anything on that site and pretty much write what they want about it. So it's no big deal. And Wikipedia listings shouldn't be taken as pure fact or truth.

Mr Lif is pretty big here in Boston. WERS always gave him a lot play. Not sure how big he is nationaly tho.

If you ever get a chance to see Edan, go. He's a Berklee grad and one of my favorite MCs/producers. Another local act to check out would be Speacial Teamz (Ed O G, Jaysaun and Slaine).

I guess with Berklee here there must be a lot of musicians around (the organ player for Otis Grove is also the piano tuner at Berklee).

Thanks for the leads Cliff.
