Where do people in Boston look for to find apartments (other than craigslist)?

You could also try listing with a real estate agent. Most of the time the tenants pay the agent and it's essentially free for the landlord. Plus, they're not exclusive listing contracts so you can list with more than one agent if you want and you can also look for a tenant on your own at the same time.

Thank you for suggestions, and I wasn't aware that real estate agents get comission from the tenant and not landlord-- that's a new concept.

Follow up question, do real estate agents can help with fair estimate for the cost of rent? I think the key word is fair.

Also, any suggestions as to where to get a sample lease?

Sometimes the landlord pays the fee or part of the fee, but the most common arrangement I've been seeing lately is that the tenant pays a fee equal to one month of rent and that's split between any agents involved.

If you hire an agent, they can certainly show you what other similar properties are renting for in your area and they can help you develop a fair lease rate based on that.

If you hire an agent, they will have a standard lease for you to use. You can also try to pop into a real estate brokerage and see if they'll give you a copy. Probably not a great idea to buy a lease template on-line as MA has it's own unique set of laws surrounding renting properties.
