Just because the COL is high here, doesn't mean you actually have to accept that rents have to be 50% of your take home pay.

It's a family oriented neighborhood? Wouldn't Someville and Waltham be more your speed? When you all bunk up 3-4 in a home, it's drives up rents for everyone.

We youngins bunk up 3 - 8 in places because we can't afford it otherwise. It's not so much a matter of not "accepting" housing prices -- there's no other option!

The main problem driving up the rent in Boston seems to be a limited supply of shoddy housing stock with the main new developments being luxury condos, even in Jackson Square, with no other options between that and Section 8/housing projects. Oh and Northeastern/BU/etc admitting students that they can't house don't really help matters. I think if the city actually seriously cracked down on landlords for violating housing regulations, a lot of places would be condemned.
