Could also be a soul food kind of place. You would think in the entire Boston area there has to be some place right?
Boston area...MAYBE. Boston, I highly doubt.
You might wanna tote, because it's just not going to be the same. I plan on bringing a couple of things when I go back for break.

Agree with the suggestions for Magnolias and Redbones. Also try Blue Ribbon BBQ in Arlington, it's more of a takeout joint but is pretty good. But while you're here, I'd eat like the locals do. You can eat soul food and BBQ at home anytime, right? I mean, when I visit my cousin in South Carolina, I don't go in search of clam chowder!

(And really, we don't eat that much clam chowder...there's a lot more here to offer!)

I haven't been to Magnolia's for Southern. I tried once, couldn't find a parking spot, and gave up (pathetic, I know).

I've been to Redbones and Blue Ribbon, all fine. My favorite BBQ place is Pit Stop on Morton Street in Mattapan (southern end of Boston proper) near the Morton street commuter rail stop. However, there's no sit down; in fact, the place is so tiny you can practically reach across the counter and grab your dinner out of the pit! Prices are right, too.

Default Mrs. Jones, Lower Mills

Mrs. Jones in the Lower Mills section of Dorchester has excellent Southern-style soul food. Pork chops, collard greens, mac and cheese, corn bread, ham hocks, oxtail, etc. Mostly takeout, but definitely worth going to...

Frankly I think that you should try something other than Southern food when you come here. Get your southern cooking when you're in Memphis. When you come to BOS, try:

Skipjacks: Seafood.
Royal's in Eastie for fried seafood.
Brown Sugar Cafe for Thai.
Quincy Market: everything
La Verdad: Mexican (not Tex)
Anywhere in the North End for Italian.

FYI, two places listed in a PP
Bob's Southern Bistro is close.
Slade's is turning into a gang bar - not recommended.
