Does anyone know what the best/easier route from south station to charlestown is? Charlestown only has the orange line from what i can see? I've tried doing searches on this, but I'm not sure the suggestions are the greatest. One option is to get on a commuter train to back bay, then get on the orange line there to get to sullivan. Or I could go from south station to downtown xing and get on the orange line there.

I live on the south shore so I think driving during rush hour would be a nightmare. I have a potential job offer so i am contemplating things. This commute could be a deal breaker unless there's flexibility about working from home.

Red to Orange

But really, the NSRL should have been built when the big dig was.

You can walk to DTX (and orange line) from South Station in under 5 minutes.

I do this about weekly. Don’t bother transferring. Just walk. Sometimes I’ll go to Chinatown to avoid the rush at DTX.

This is what I did when I lived near Sullivan.

The T runs a passenger ferry from Long wharf to Charlestown Navy Yard. If the job is at the yard then the boat may be more direct than the orange line.

As others have pointed out, just walk to Downtown Crossing from South Station and avoid the very brief trip on the Red Line. It shouldn't be that bad a commute. Honestly, you'll probably spend more time walking to the Red Line and waiting for a train than you would if you just walked to Downtown Crossing. The Orange Line Platform is easily accessed from the entrance by Primark and Roche Brothers (the Macy's Entrance which you pass first requires a longer and sometimes congested walk along an underground corridor).

Maybe give it a test run on the weekend (unlimited rides on the Commuter Rail are available for $10)? That's going to most likely be the easiest.

Another option would be to take the Red Line from either Braintree or Quincy Adams and get off at Downtown Crossing and switch to the Orange line which has a stop at Sullivan Sq. Just two rides for one price.
