Speaking of fairness and equity - how does sojustapo feel about getting rid of the extremely unfair, unequal and frankly speaking very racist METCO? Also, what does the racial breakdown look like if METCO students are factored into the “elite school” BPS population? If the whole hoopla is about elite exam schools allegedly not being available to black students shouldn’t all the elite millionaire suburb schools accessible via METCO that are a whole lot better than BLS/BLA and are factually not available to non-blacks be factored in as well?

That was the old mantra of BLS that some no longer support while others don't care one bit. This goes back to my point about competitiveness vs. utilitarianism and I don't see it being resolved anytime soon.

I have always thought METCO seemed unfair. There are plenty of poor white kids who could have used it too. Nope, not for them.

Heck it's not even generally for poor black kids. Mostly somehow "connected" black kids (in other words middle-class and up who's parents knew how to navigate the system).

Right I knew a black family who used metco and the husband was a Boston cop who made 150k a year. They lived in Hyde park. I believe the child went to Brookline schools. They weren't poor....
