Not at all what I was taking about.

Boston has had an extremely safe year in murders. 37. Compared to other cities of this size it is quite remarkable actually. And, if you do look at the 37 murders that did happen, most seem to be interconnected in "that life" so, to deduce. Boston is an extremely safe city. The fact that this side of this city message board is updated so infrequently, and when it is it from a few out of town doom posters about negative perception of a city that facts and data constantly rebuke leaves a question as to what their actual intention is.

Guy tossed lit cigarette at man at South Station, then threatened him with a knife, police say

What caused this change?

By anon on Fri, 02/16/2024 - 10:50am.
I have been a daily T rider for over 50 years, starting at age 12 when I started Boston Latin. Although everybody seems to say (and apparently can produce statistics and all kinds of proof to back it up) that crime was worse in Boston in the 1970s, up until recent years I have never, I mean NEVER, seen the madness that I now see on the T on a daily, frequent, recurring basis both on the trains and in the stations. It's frightening, it's dystopian, it's intimidating, it makes me avoid many stations that I was never afraid to tread in years past at any hour of the day or night. And in those years past there wasn't much of a presence of law enforcement on the T, just like there isn't now, so I don't think that's the answer. What changed? Are people de-evolving? What is causing the drastic increase of what cleary looks to be people with mental illness surging all over the T?

the difference in exposure via 24 hour news cycles and the internet has brought the appearance of the deterioration of society and fear. this is why i get a little suspicious of these crime dump type threads. The news and social media already do it to us 24 hours a day. Thank you for your quality reporting, but do we really need yet another source?
