Regardless of how extreme your political views might be it's a completely different level of crazy to take a gun and shoot people. This guy was obviously mentally disturbed no matter how 'normal' he may have appeared to be.
It's sad...there's a story this week of a normal seeming 19 year old from Norwell who drowned his dad in a lake in Duxbury. Young people seem to not be dealing with their mental health and don't seem to be getting much guidance on it.
Weird indeed. He sure sounds like someone who ... somehow ... became radicalized despite the appearance of a relatively stable life and social network.
20% of Americans live with a mental illness, and 10 million Americans live with a serious mental illness.
Some of these conditions put you at a much much greater risk of being radicalized. A stable life can reduce the risk but unfortunately cannot eliminate it.
The murderer decided to kill black people in a town that is 93% white, If we were lucky there was a chance he wouldn't have been able to find anyone before being arrested or killed.
"Two people who said they came face-to-face with the gunman on Saturday and were not shot described him looking right at them.
"The shooter was standing right beside me, with his gun on his side. We stared at each other and I shut my eyes because I didn't want to see ... the bullet coming," Bill Leach said.
A grainy image of the shooter shared by Melissa Gratta shows him a block from the scene of the truck crash holding what appears to be a pistol in his hand.
"He looked right at us and he didn't shoot," she said, adding that he easily could have."
I think this is the classic case where the intent would be hard to prove in court (unless they find some other document) but we all know that he killed them because they were black.

I've read that women are under a tremendous amount of pressure these days with work, kids, they often end up being the caregivers...many had to leave the workforce during the pandemic...i guess maybe men feel more financial pressure...not sure.

I’m not suggesting men are worse off, rather, that they’re worse at managing their mental health and social relationships.
There seems to be some barbaric thinking that takes over where they feel more powerful with a gun...killing people they don't know.
I dont know many stories of a woman taking a gun to kill strangers...if anything a woman usually kills someone with a gun who has been abusing her...but not always.

Men from a young age are taught to “be tough” and not show emotion or distress. When something is bothering many men, they bottle it up.
As we all know, keeping something inside causes it to fester and grow, and unfortunately rear it’s head eventually in an ugly way.
Women seem to be better at talking and sharing feelings when they need help. Men are implied to be the “rock” of the family and know how to handle everything.
Men (males rather, of any mammal I believe) have also evolved to be more violent than women. Men have more testosterone and there are many links between testosterone and violence. Men imprisoned for violent crimes have higher testosterone levels on average than the general population for instance.
Yep. And no, age is not a primary driver. In fact, while most mental health conditions present at a young age, they get progressively worse (when untreated) as people age. Young adults are actually more likely to talk openly about their mental health and seek help for conditions than middle age and older adults, but obviously not every single young adult falls into that bucket.
