Cops should earn 2X that of a city councilor. Mayor gets 2X that of cops (and 4X that of a councilperson). And if you ask me, the Boston City Council should become part time (based on what they're putting out these days) but let's not start getting too logical here.
Exactly. If the mayor is making 250k a year I really dont care. But her minions shouldnt be making the same or close to that. 115k seems perfectly reasonable salary for a city councilor.

We would lose all the centered new green equitable racial thermal climate intersectional noncishet trans justice and focus on actually running the city - not a bad thing if you ask me.

I think some people forget that cops do help manage the city.

It's already been discussed how cops are leaving for the fire department as well as the private sector, and that's with them struggling at the same to recruit qualified applicants (been happening for years). THAT is a real problem. To put it quite bluntly (and I'm "sorry but not sorry" for offending anybody here), every individual serving on the Boston City Council is 100% replaceable. Just some food for thought.

A well-run police department that treats its employees with respect can be one of the Mayor's greatest assets. If not, the greatest. Marty Walsh was politically astute enough to know that as were most of his predecessors. But the crop of residents was also different then. Now we live in the land of the entitled, many of whom take their comfy lives here for granted.

To be fair, lots of cops aren't just replaceable, they should actively BE replaced.

Yes they are replaceable for sure. The problem with cops is actually enticing anyone to take on that job right now. I have known people in the past who left the private sector to BECOME a cop. I doubt that will be happening now. So they really have to recruit young people and it isnt like it happens overnight...they have to recruit them, the candidates have to have a clean record, they have to live in boston and they have to go through the academy. I think they're to have to do away with the whole live in the city thing if that want decent people as police officers. That already was a problem before the city got to where it is now.

Clearly this poster hates cops. I'm taking what he's saying with a grain of salt.

I don't know what to tell you if you don't think that having diverse community voices is valuable, and I don't mean just race/gender.
You seem to constantly forget that those people have been voted there, so the people of Boston want them there. I understand you don't like them but you don't even live in Boston if I remember correctly.

Word of advice, you should take with a grain of salt the words of anyone that you read on the internet.

And no, I don't hate cops. I wish cops were treated the same they are treated in many other developed countries. Held accountable when they make mistakes...and when they commit crimes.
