TBH there are more Irish born in Brighton more out off Market Street and around Oak Square. You'll find them over at Kiki's (grocery), Corrib Pub, Irish Village, Porter Belly's.

I really don't think the presence of a church means anything. There aren't many vibrant parishes in Boston, period. Those that are lively are not particularly ethnic.
Brighton was our first “home” when we moved to US. We lived near Oak Square (Atkins St). We aren’t from Ireland, but I remember Irish bakery on Washington St and some other stores. I’m not sure many families with kids can live there as schools are … well, Boston’s schools, but I think there is a private school at Oak Square.

Irish pubs have really good food... but they're Dark and chock-full with old folks. Not really a fun vibe. Feels like people are guilt-drinking... kinda sad, I get its supposed to feel cozy but feels more sad than cozy. Then you have the more gentrified spots, but their Irish authenticity is in question im sure...

Im referring to my experiences in Baltimore at Mahaffeys Pub, but especially at Eire Pub in Adams Village and Centre Bar (RIP) in Shawmut. Idk about Southie- I wouldn't go to an Irish pub there tbh.
