Hello; we currently live in Allston w/our 3-year old son and are considering moving/buying in JP. Any pointers on good public schools K-8 or K-12? And are there other local options, such as charter or pilot programs?

Thank you

well, JP is obviously part of Boston,so you'd be part of the Boston Public Schools system. can't speak for the elementary and middle schools (I went to a small private school until the 7th grade), and I don't know much about the charter schools popping up, but most of the high schools in Boston aren't that great, unless it's one of the exam schools. if your kid is smart and can pass the ISEE w/ high marks, and get into Latin or Latin Academy, that would be golden. if you live in JP, you're teen may end up in English HS, which was a bad HS when I was growing up (last i heard, b/c of the bad MCAS scores, the city took over and it's now a charter/pilot school or something). not anything major you need to worry about now of course, and things may change in 10-12 years (it seems to be getting better)

I also don't think there are any BPS that goes from K-12, more likely K-8, some K-6

Thanks, Eevee. I'd be interested to hear from others if they know about K-6/k-8 BPS schools in JP.

I wish I could be more help, but my neighbors in JP send all three of their children to the Young Achievers Science and Math Pilot School and seem very happy with it.

Yup.. Boston Latin runs from the 7th through the 12th grade, it only admits students into the 7th and 9th grades.

Don't have any experience with Boston schools... but this website may help.
