Hello everyone, fellow Bay-Staters! My question regards a museum on Roxbury's Walnut Ave.(that if I'm not mistaken, it relatively close to Franklin Park and Jackson Park?) called the Center For Afro American Art or something like that. There's an exhibit I am really interested in visiting there and I would be at the museum on either a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, between 1:00 and 5:00. I'd also be getting at orange line stop in that area somewhere from the direction of Downton Crossing, Ibeieve. How safe is that neighborhood that houses the museum and the general vicinity (including near Jackson Park, Franklin Park Zoo, and Columbus Ave. during these days and hours? Any information any of you could give me would be a good help to me. I am very unfamiiar with Roxbury, I live in the 'burbs as a matter of fact.
Also, although I don't know the station stop I'd get off at, I know that I would be walking near Franklin Park toward the museum after taking a 22 bus? from or near the station. That's all I type now because I don't want to overwhelm or confuse anyone. Thanks!

Default Oh yeah, I almost forgot

I'll most probably be going into this area alone.

wow, I used to live right near there (not too far from the playground off of Walnut Ave/St). when I lived there, the area was fine, especially in the morning/afternoon. so long as you didn't stray over to Humboldt Ave in the night. however, I know they fairly recently put up some new housing in Egleston Sq near Washington and Seaver, so I don't know if the presence of this new housing has affected the area negatively or positively.

the Afro-American Museum isn't that close to the zoo, and I can't remember which park is Jackson Park (I'm trying to remember if it was the park off of Townsend St near the hospital) and depending on which way you're coming from, it can be a bit of a walk from Seaver (not really long, but at least a good 3 blocks). you could take a bus from Jackson Sq (like the 22 to Ashmont) and get off at Walnut Ave stop (there's a large church and a library branch nearby), then just walk down the street. you could also possible take the number 44 from Jackson, go down Jackson, and just get off at Townsend and walk down Townsend, which may be a bit closer, if I'm remembering the street lengths correctly (when you're walking down Townsend, head away from the high school). hopefully this is clear, I haven't been in that area for years! (and sadly, despite living close to it for years, I never went to the Afro-American Museum)

Default Thanks, eevee.

I've been busy, that's why you haven't heard from me until now. I appreciate your help. I went into that area and saw my exhibit and had a great time. I got in and out without the slightest hitch. Beautiful museum, too. If you ever return to Boston, check this mansion and its sculpture park out. By the way, how do you like Chicago? It is my favorite city in some ways, amazing town. Happy Thanksgiving, if you celebrate.
