I'm visiting Boston U this Saturday to look around campus. I have one day, so I need to make it good. I will arrive Friday evening by car and will head to Boston U Saturday. I will be staying in Framingham at a RedRoof Inn.

I plan on looking around the school until like 2 or 3 and then driving around the neighborhoods a bit to get my barrings. I will be leaving Sunday morning, so I need to know anything that I have to do while I'm there.

Also, are there any cheap seafood places I can get dinner Friday and Saturday night? I don't need anything fancy, maybe 8 - 12 per person just to have some fresh seafood.

I don't know about *have* to do.....what do you WANT to do? Read a guidebook or check out a website that lists tourists stuff and see what strikes you....

You might get more out of looking at neighborhoods if you get out of your car and walk/take the T. Likely, this is how you will get around once you're here, plus, you tend to see more when you're on foot.

Your budget is a little low for dinner (even a cheap one), but Chinatown is a good area for cheap seafood. Lots of places have lobster specials, clams, scallops, etc.

I'd be a little suspect of seafood in the $8-$12 range, unless you have to see the ER at Mass General. Figure a clam plate alone at any clam shack will run you ~$20. As mentioned, Chinatown might be your best bet. Either that, Long John Silver's.

Try No Name Restaurant on the fish pier. It's down and dirty but the chowder is good and fried clams are good.

Boston does not have a lot of cheap seafood. Even the "clam shack" type of atmosphere places are pricey. I get my cheap seafood fix when I visit the fam back home in Maryland.

I personally hate No Name, I think their seafood is flavorless. Barking Crab will give you the cheap seafood atmosphere at least, but it'll still cost you. You can get seafood for less in Chinatown, but it's not going to be regular old seafood like you may be looking for.

Double your budget and you'll probably be fine!

I'm not looking for a sit down place. We are going to be staying a little outside the city. I thought there may be a nice shack type place to get fresh seafood. I really don't care about atmosphere and hobnobbing with all the rich snobs.

Who said anything about "rich snobs"? An order of fried clams or a lobster roll from a clam shack is still going to cost about $15-$20. The prices you mentioned aren't really reasonable.

Alternately, you could probably find an Irish-themed bar that serves fish and chips for pretty cheap.

I hate to break this to ya, but if you're considering BU, you'd better get used to hobnobbing with rich snobs. Bunker Hill CC it ain't.

True enough, but BU has all types. It's not just rich snobs.

It's true that even the clam shacks will be a bit more expensive. Seafood just costs more. There aren't, to my knowledge, too many clam shacks in the western suburbs where you're staying. They're more of a coastal phenomenon. Since you're not in town for long, you may not have time for a ride to the coast, but if you come to Boston there are some good places a bit out of the city to the north and south.
