It looks like I might be moving to Buffalo from Pittsburgh, if things pan out. I have a job interview at ECMC. Can anyone tell me if they are a decent employer? I will be looking to rent in the downtown or Allentown areas of the city. Can anyone recommend a good apartment building? I prefer vintage buildings and would prefer to spend less than 600/month. A studio or 1 bedroom would be fine. How is street parking in the city? I would appreciate any feedback or advice. I'm excited about the potential move. I have definitely fallen hard for Buffalo!

I don't know anything about ECMC's employment. Parking in the city is not generally a problem. That being said, I have neighbors who I always have to remind to move their car or they'll get ticketed (airheads). $600/mo ought to get you a decent studio in a decent neighborhood. Be prepared to get asked for change on a daily basis in Allentown (although I think this may have cleaned up a bit). If you're not racist, or classist there are very nice homes on the lower west side in decent neighborhoods that rent for cheap.

I searched "apartments near ECMC.

I got a great .pdf file for SUNY Med. School students. However, it blocks you out when you put the link here. Or, it makes it tialic or underlined.

Try it, look for a .pdf that says "welcome to Buffalo"

Is off-street parking essential, as that pdf suggests? Or is on-street parking workable? I use on-street parking in my neighborhood in Pittsburgh and it hasn't been an issue, but I don't know if Buffalo is different in that regard. Thanks!

Hello and welcome! we could use as many transplants as we can get! tell your friends lol.

I know you said downtown and Allentown But I decided to list all of the areas nearish to those areas so you know what your options are (although im male I would feel comfortable living as a single female anywhere within the green lines)

Luckily your budget will allow you to afford a studio or one bedroom in almost any area of the city. (the fargo estates / cottage district will allow you to come in under budget even and its walking distance to allentown with great architecture. A bit rough around the edges still though, but with normal common sense you would be fine.)

If you're looking for a large apartment building all of the areas have them throughout but allentown and downtown have a lot more than the EV or cottage district

Parking isnt really much of an issue in buffalo except for downtown M-F 9-5 I have lived with street parking during and for 3 years after college now with no issues whatsoever (except the alternate parking is a bit of a pain at times)

Good luck with the potential job/move and let us know if you have any other questions
