This really brings back memories!
I remember when the milk man would go house to house.

Street cleaners would walk the streets and literally clean the streets!

The mail man would say hello and it wasn't against the law to give him a Christmas card!

The highlight of Christmas was going to AM&A's to look at the window display every year!

Going to the Apollo Theater to watch movies

Teds Hot Dogs at the waterfront! The best hotdogs in Buffalo!

- Jacobi Brothers (disclosure - my dear departed father-in-law was the owner)
- The Christmas windows at AM&A's downtown
I live here and it brings back memories of things past...

in college, we always went to Your Host for "The "Wow" ! What a taste, if not good for you!

BTW: Come to Lancaster for the Christmas windows We have them.

Commodore Theater
2285 Genesee St Buffalo NY 14225
Opened September 16, 1926, on the far east side of Buffalo. Originally equipped with a Marr & Colton pipe organ.
Single Screen
Seating for 725

It was a one story brick building with connecting shops. An independent theater the whole time, it had new owners (Rosenow & Brett) and a remodeling in 1951, when it was renamed the New Commodore. Closed in 1955, and re-opened as the Club Commodore, a social hall. Razed in 1987.

.....Thank you sooooo much for the info. I have wonderful memories of going to many dances there. Those were the good old days !

Live in Florida - things I miss about my home Buffalo:

- 1976 Buffalo Sabres - french connection
- sledding at Sheridan park
- kids playing street hockey actually in the street
- snowballing the school buses
- sodas meaning ice cream and pop
- Carousel roller rink/Superskate roller rink/USA roller rink
- the crunch of fresh snow when walking home
- everyone wearing shorts and t-shirts the first day of spring when it hits 50 degrees
- the pizza joints - Pizza Bella, Bocce Pizza, Prima Pizza
- 10 cent wings
- Mulligan's Beach Club
- GR55 hockey announcer Ted Darling
- Playing "strike-out" with a rubber baseball against the school wall
- 25 cent bottles of 16 oz Coke at Vulcan Beverages
- Penny candy at Meltredders
- Neighborhood bars
- Riding your bike over the Peace Bridge to Fort Erie
- Beaver Island
- Fantasy Island - Fun, Wow! - they would let you bring your own BBQ
- Veteran's Park and Isleview
- Perry's ice-cream across from Riverside park
- Standing in line all night for concerts at the Aud
- The frenzy every time the Bills win a game
- Scoring "red" seats to a Sabres game
- People offering to help you when your car won't start
- Curly fries at Brinsons
- Niesners/McCrory's/Ames/Twin Fair/D&K Store on West Ferry
- The big red flags on the carts at Kings so you wouldn't steal the carts
- Shoveling walks as a kid and making good money
- Sponge candy/Orange chocolate at Watsons
- Private schools being referred to only as Catholic schools
- Main Place Mall

They moved. The rolls and bakery are just as great. Their store is better than getting products in the local stores.

You would not be walking there now. All the nice homes and area is basically down on its luck. Homes even over a block or two toward Baily ( beautiful doubles) sell for a song. Taught at #11 for a while and moved to N. Buffalo by 1990.
