Hi.

I am Canadian moving to the Amherst, ny area and was wondering if there are any low carb stores? In Canada we have a store that sells low carb items all in one place.

Does this area have anything like that? Do the grocery stores carry low carb items?

Thanks in advance

I've never seen a store advertised like that , but I never looked. I'm sure you could research your diet and eat low carb foods without the hype??

I am not quite sure what one would find in a "Low Carb" store other than food items that are inherently low in carbs, seems gimmicky. Sort of like how a "Low Sodium" store would simply sell vegetables and fruit. Just educate yourself and purchase unprocessed foods inherently low in carbs.

That being said, I think you will be surprised at the selection (and price) of items at the SUPER markets in the area such as Wegmans and Tops and will have little need for stores marketing health hypes. I have been to supermarkets across Ontario and was always taken back by the very limited selections and high prices.

Yeah, Wegmans might be something of a revelation for oxokittenoxo. Slightly more impressive than IGA. For me, its great advantage over Canadian counterparts is its selection (and mere availability) of my favorite relatively high-carb product, beer. ...except now I just googled it, and a bunch of articles dated 4/16/15 report that Ontario grocery stores will now be permitted to sell beer...finally. Not sure when that policy goes into effect...I skimmed a few Toronto Sun articles on the topic and a date wasn't mentioned. Perhaps effective immediately.

Define "low-carb". Low processed carb? Low all carbs, even in fresh fruit and veggies?

If you shop the perimeter of the store, you are basically low processed carbs. Otherwise, make a list.

No cutesy stores like that here.

Wegmans is definitely going to have all the OP wants. However, so will other stores.
