looking in to Burlington (Colchester, South Burlington: house, neighborhoods, income)

thinking about a move to Burlington. Can anyone give me the URL to some good sites that describe the different neighborhoods in the city (and the housing prices in those neighborhoods)? Or just general opinions/info on the neighborhoods would be welcome also. Looking to move from a small farm in Southern NH to a small house (say 1200 sq ft or so) w/ a small yard (but big enough for two corgis to play in) in a neighborhood with a kind of hip feel to it. We can probably sell our house for #300k so would be looking for a house in the $250k range. Thanks!

Are you only interested in the City of Burlington itself, or are you considering it's outlying towns (Essex, South Burlington, Colchester, etc).
In Burlington itself I like the Five Sisters neighborhood. It's located in the southern end of the City near Callahan Park (if you've got a map).

$250 won't get you much in Burlington. Maybe the near North End, which is too dicey for me.

I like Five Sisters area also, but it's not cheap either.

If the North End scares you, stay out of the rest of the US.
North St. might have been a little scary... 20 years ago. Now I see hippies walking down it at all hours of the night and no one touches them.

If this person is referring to the rest of the US, which I suspect he/she is, get ready for a lot of this attitude in VT.
The whitest state in the country is also the greatest, and anyone anywhere else is beneath you. It's very prevalent here.

Just referring to the North End, but thanks for the US conspiracy theory.
You defend the north end by saying you've seen people not getting touched there. That pretty much sums it up. Some people make the decision to live in the north end because they can't afford anywhere else. That's fine, whatever floats your boat. Personally I wouldn't want to live in a crappy area so I could afford to walk to an area that's not crappy. I'm not saying it's terribly dangerous, it's just that I didn't move to Vermont to live in a run down area, not to pay a lot of money for the privilege. Most of the people who re-appear in the Vermont forum to bash the state usually left because they lived somewhere they shouldn't have moved in the first place. That's why we see people saying "Vermont" is full of gangs, drugs, etc when they are talking about places like Barre, St. Albans or the North End. Same for people who try to get by in NY or San Fran without the required income.

I have seen some decent places in the north end, it's just not for me.

I didn't post any conspiracy theories. Vermont is the whitest state. Fact. You said the rest of the US sucks. What did I miss?
