Hey Everyone,

I am considering a job in California in which I could live anywhere in the state. I have lived in the northeast and the midwest for the majority of my life, so I would like a more tropical climate but not too far south where it is desert-like. Additionally, I would to live where there is a lot of city life (restaurants, walkability, diversity, etc.) I really love San Francisco, but it is too expensive for my price range. Is there a good spot in CA where the prices aren't too high and also where earthquakes aren't as big of a concern as they are in San Francisco?

Thanks!

City of Huntington Beach, California - About HB Nice area, close to the ocean and a lot going on. Rents have gone way down over the last couple of years.

Great weather all year long!!

you might want to consider Sacramento. It is less expensive, not on or near a major earth quake fault (I don't think) and does have night life and diveristy. if the tropical climate is really something you are seeking, then the beach areas south of Los Angeles would be better. Some are saying rents have gone way down, what is your housing budget. What might seem "way down" to some may still be higher than you have in mind. True tropical is more what you can expect in Florida.

No tropics anywhere in CA. What's your price range? Earthquake risk is everywhere, although some places more so than others.

Maybe check out San Diego or the beach towns north of there. LA is great for bigger city, and is cheaper than San Francisco. Other fun walkable cities are places like Santa Barbara, etc.

I thought Santa Barbara and San Diego area as well. I hope we have helped the OP, when the comment was made about So Calif and the desert I guess it was clear very little is known about Ca by him/her.
