True but what part of the total is that?

How is the WA budget and especially in regard to bonds, retirement benefits for gov't employees, etc?

IF CA is doing so well, why does it have these problems?

What do you mean what part of the total is that? That's literally what I showed you. 36.2% for California and 78.2% for Washington.

I'm not a freaking Washington state budget expert (although I do know their pensions are doing fairly well). I'm just presenting facts and you seem to have trouble fitting them into your narrative.

My point is simple. WA is doing better overall without a State Income tax and the bulk of the taxes that are higher are on expenditures people choose to make. WA has a bigger normal deficit than CA, but not when you count pensions, then the deficit is way beyond the ability of CA to pay with the current taxes.

Overall who is most likely to have to keep raising taxes and fees?

Side note: WA is NOT one of my favorite States, CA to me is my favorite.

Washington looks like it's in a stronger budgetary position than California, at a glance. California has much more people of course, and much more poor people, making it likely harder to budget.

Are you saying we should increase our property taxes and lower our income taxes to be more in line with Washington's mix?

Edit: And yes, correct, Ca is the best, for many reasons.

we should not be talking about absolute numbers here but in proportion to population compared to other states and I believe CA still beats WA in terms of poor people relative to overall population

there must be something wrong about CA that despite all the taxes it collects, it still has more poor people (percentage wise) compared with other state, or WA, our other progressive neighbor in the west coast w/o them collecting inc tax

Some of us Californians do, as we are open minded and intelligent enough to know that our dollar goes considerably further most elsewhere.
