As someone who isn't liberal or conservative but may align with either/or depending on the topic, I can't say any kind of "strong" statement regarding my beliefs without judgemental eyes, comments, and just overall intolerance. It's sad really.
You are free to express your self about anything as long as it is trendy, popular or favored by liberal. Other than that they do not believe in freedom of speech.

What a total croc stereotype generalization.

Where I have worked since 1991 the place was more than jubilant at the first Obama Inauguration... I mean lapel pins, office chatter, pictures of the first family in cubes and the bar nearby was packed with co-workers after work and the party lasted late into the night..

The current cycle had Hillary and even a Sanders campaign materials all around... one of the vendors came in with a Make America Great hat and he was told it was not appropriate... poor guy apologized and all was forgiven as he removed his hat immediately... I know nothing would have been said had it been Hillary material.

One of the midwest nurses had a Trump sticker on her car and it was vandalized... plenty of Hillary and even a couple of Bernie stickers and nothing.

Having been Bay Area born and raised has made me oblivious to just how different things are elsewhere... had to go on business to Washington State and saw lots of Trump stuff in the more rural and small town areas...

One of the people I met said his small town has been devastated and it seems like only King County matters these days in politics...

I do think a lot of fly over country for whatever reason is celebrating just a bit if only that their voice has meaning...

By the same token, a lot of what you would likely consider non-fly over country is likely in mourning and obviously so. Different strokes and all that rot.

A older person who has multiple properties in the Bay Area, yeah I would imagine you'd be a 13 supporter lol.

Just because you personally subsidize your renters does not mean that it's been a net positive for renters, especially in the Bay Area which has one of the lowest home ownership rates and skyrocketing rents (which is largely due to under-supply, a separate issue). It's another instance of inter-generational theft, young people are really struggling.

Anecdotal, like your post, but every single one of my liberal and conservative friends have zero tolerance for vandalism, property destruction, or violence, especially as a political message.

Look at a state like Kansas, quintessential flyover country. Trump got 17,062 votes in the primary, Bernie received 26,450 votes. Probably quite a bit of mourning going on there too.

There are many people in these areas who will not be helped by a reduction in business regulations, top rate marginal tax cuts, capital gains cuts, no estate tax, no federal raise of the minimum wage, Medicaid block grants (which will undoubtedly begin to provide support for a smaller and smaller share of health care expenses), expensive overseas conflicts, etc. When you're making $10/hour, tax cuts do nothing for you and I have yet to see someone post a regulation cut that makes sense but instead hear general hand-waving "reduce regulations (no specifics) and businesses will hire more people". I fear middle America will continue to get the short end of the stick.

Yes, remember when King County was struggling? Last person to leave Seattle turn out the lights?

Billboard reading "Will the Last Person Leaving SEATTLE -- Turn Out the Lights" appears near Sea-Tac International Airport on April 16, 1971. - HistoryLink.org

Small rural towns everywhere are struggling with our newly globalized economy. This is true for the USA as well as Europe, Japan, China. People leave to go where the jobs are, Walmarts replace mom and pop stores. Cities go through booms and busts also. Look at the East Side of Saint Louis, or Jackson, Mississippi. Cities can also be struggling. All Americans should be treated with dignity, not this liberal cities vs. conservative rural towns nonsense.

So we are in nothing more than a normal business cycle and the election of Trump is just part of the cycle...

I'm certain the pendulum will shift again as it always does...

Point on Prop 13... it applies equally to every assessed property in the State and matters not if the property was bought 25 years ago or today.. the same rules apply.

As for "Fair"... the United Supreme Court has ruled it does NOT violate the equal protection clause...

It will be an interesting 4 years to be sure. All love though, even if we get salty through the keyboard. I like having our corner to discuss things.

When I was living and working in Oakland 2010-2013ish I really wanted to be able to buy property but my first choice neighborhoods in Oakland were still just beyond my comfort level of affordability. So I looked at East Oakland quite a bit, almost bought a place in Maxwell Park, never pulled the trigger. Oh well, hindsight's 20/20 and with future knowledge going back I would have stretched for the nicer neighborhoods. Wish I would have had a conversation with you Ultrarunner back then, would have benefited from your insight I'm sure.

Still, I'm happy I have a house in Sacramento. My neighborhood is gentrifying, it's a great inflation hedge, and my property taxes are stable for the foreseeable future

1. We don't want Wal-Mart or K-Mart, we have seen the way these corporations destroy American small business/shops and towns, so we will either run them out of town or tax them so high it becomes inefficient for them to do business here.

2. We hate people that come here and think that it is all glamor Hollywood and good weather, especially people from other countries who have virtually no knowledge about our state except what they have seen on Baywatch. They never bother to go hiking or explore the rest of the state (I guess that is good because, we like to keep secrets).

3. We hate people that move here and buy huge houses and drive the housing prices to Pluto.

4. We hate your huge pickup trucks with V8 diesel engines that sound like a big rig. They take up the highway and can't fit in the parking slots.

5. We accept gays because, they are one of the last minorities (along with Atheists, like myself) that the rest of Americans seem to think it is okay to attack. We like to pride ourselves on being a safe haven.

6. We are not anti-military, we are pro-military but anti-war. I myself will be joining the Coast Guard in the near future.

7. Its not all sunshine, it rains pretty substantially here in the winter months and gets below freezing near the coast.

8. We like our environmental laws because, LA has some of the worst air pollution in North America, my girlfriend can't go to the LA area because she has extremely bad asthma. I would not want the same air pollution that China has.

9. We are not anti-gun quite a few of us own guns, in fact I know a man that has a collection of over 30 different guns However, we are not Texas and we don't want to see people with the 50 caliber revolver hanging from their belt.

10. With the exception of Berkley and LA, most of the state is generally conservative.

-Thanks for understanding.
