Once again Donnie, you have your facts wrong.

But let us take a look at this from what should be your point of view.

The Socialist US government decided to supply water to Central Valley farmers. Dams were built, canals were built, at taxpayer expense.
Socialist farmers were delighted that taxpayers throughout the United States gave them money so they could farm the land.

The anti socialist forces worked hard to wreck the pinko commie water subsidies, and they did so.

This pleased all good patriotic Conservatives who despise socialism and socialists.

Yes donnie, as I said, the good politicians finally called a screeching halt to the socialist water schemes and the welfare farmers. You should be cheering.

Here is a funny factoid, we, that is the family farm, has been paying for California Aqueduct water for 50 years, and have yet to get a drop of it. Don't expect me to have any sympathy for the welfare farmers who got their taxpayer subsidized water turned off. Let them get their water from private sources and pay market prices for it.

It is also important to note, that while whackos have been screaming about the smelt, the smelt are not the problem. 38 million people and a drought and farmers planting like there was no drought are the problem.

Quote:
Stahl spoke to Jeffrey Mount, founder of the Center for Watershed Sciences at the University of California, Davis. He says the smelt were once "incredibly abundant," but that very few of them are left."

Mount says that three quarters of the water shortages are caused by the drought, not the fish, and he has a message for the farmers: "Don't plant crops that have to have water every year. So some of the mistakes that farmers are making in that system is they're planting crops that can't be sustained in periods of severe drought. And Lesley, if there's one takeaway to have here, is the future for California is going to be dealing with scarcity. We have to adapt to basically chronic scarcity."

He does admit that the timing of the judge's order, in the midst of the drought, has made things worse.

"I mean, of all times to come along and try to save a little fish that big. People don't understand. They don't get it," Stahl remarked.

"Well, I wish they would ask beyond the little fish, because the little fish is essentially your bellwether. It's telling you, you have an ecosystem which is in dramatic decline," Mount said.

He points to the state's salmon population, which is so low that commercial fishing has been shut down for two years.

Asked what has gone wrong, Mount told Stahl, "We can't do it sustainably. You cannot currently meet the demand. Nowhere else on the planet can you point to a place which relies, for their water supply system, on an estuary."

In a practical sense, there is virtually nothing the Republicans CAN do. Yes, they can send members to Congress in certain districts as well as elect a few assemblymen and state senators, but in state wide races they are becoming increasingly impotent. The reason has nothing to do with ideology or positions on issues and everthing to do with demographics. Older white US born voters tend to be the most conservative and form the base for the GOP nationwide, not just in California. In California this bloc is no longer a majority, is now a minority, and is being outvoted, and will be, perhaps forever. In opposition are ethnic minorities, union members both private and public of all races, environmentalists, and well to do and young white liberals. These various factions all tend to have leftist ideologies and vote heavily Democratic. These groups combined now outnumber white conservatives and can outvote them. Political results depend far more on demographics and less on rhetoric than is usually believed, and this is certainly true in California.

Actually, the Republicans need to dump the extreme right, and become once again, a party of business and center right, Eisenhower and Nixon Republicans.

Gasp! But true, that. Not enough to entice me but perhaps just enough for a little respect where now there is none on my part.

Backwards. It is the Democratic Party and the liberals that have shifted far to the left, worse and worse in recent decades. The GOP is no more conservative today than they were during the Goldwater or Reagan eras, in fact, they have moved more to the center. There is a divide on the Right between the NeoCons and the PaleoCons, or traditional conservatives, with NeoCons viewed as being too liberal and more like Democrats. The perception that conservatives have shifted too far to the right is a false one disseminated by the far left, because from their vantage point these self styled progressives do view conservatives as being extremeists. The other side of the coin is that many conservatives consider progressives to be hard line Marxists.

Sorry Bud, Goldwater and Reagan would be disowned by today's tea baggers as RINO's

You weren't paying attention in the 90's either, Clinton got elected and re elected by moving the Democratic party to the middle, where it sits today.

Any rational analysis of Obama puts him center or center right.

(I know the conservatives are incapable of rational analysis, which is why they are conservatives)

Without one shred title or jot of evidence, which proves that conservatives prefer belief to data.

This is just human nature. The minority group in any area is going to bellyache louder than those who are ok with the way things are.
