actually, the geography is just the very northern rural tip of california and the very southern rural part of oregon.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jefferson_(Pacific_state)

The State of Jefferson was a proposed U.S. state that would span the contiguous, mostly rural area of southern Oregon and northern California, where several attempts to secede from Oregon and California, respectively, have taken place in order to gain own statehood.
This region on the Pacific Coast is the most famous of several that have sought to adopt the name of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States. Thomas Jefferson sent the Lewis and Clark expedition into the Pacific Northwest in 1803, and envisioned the establishment of an independent nation in the western portion of North America which he dubbed the "Republic of the Pacific",[1] hence the association of his name with regional autonomy. The independence movement (rather than statehood) is instead known as Cascadia.

Some of those counties, like Trinity voted for Obama. All of those counties have a higher % of seniors than the other areas of the state,so they have a higher % of course on social security and medicare. I guess the author then compares social security and medicare to welfare. What a reactionary! ALl those counties have very high % compared to other parts of the state of NAtive Americans too.

There's really nothing hypocritical about this once you understand that the right wingers' are only opposed to giving money to minorities. Not many of those in Jeffersonland so let the tax dollars flow.
Exactly!

yeah, my link didn't work right. i think it was because city data put http in front of it which wasn't there before. i'm surprised they included medford in there. certainly less rural than where i am north.
