Remember reading that book in grade school? It was a fictionalized account of the life of an actual woman stranded on San Nicolas Island.

A great article on the search for her cave.

I saw that in the paper! It's amazing. It made me want to search the house for an old copy of the book.

Incredible. It is truly awe inspiring especially after the way you see mother nature giving an inkling, like the East Coast storm Sandy, that she can take back the Earth whenever it suits her, juxtaposed with the tenacity of human existence.

Probably because you didn't grow up in CA. I think every one of my siblings and I were assigned it in school,. Happy to see it was a Ca; archaeologist who played a key role in solving the mystery.
