This was a pack trip to support the Forest Service by building new corrals at a wilderness station in the San Rafael Wilderness.

A ride in the woods

Ears Happen! I am quite happy not to be out in the woods this weekend, it poured rain all night long, which is good, but interfering with my work. But, a good weekend to work on my moto and clean and condition my tack.

Looks more suspiciously like you're hauling a couple of expired right wingers to their final resting place.

Ha, Funny thing about these packers, they are a bunch of liberals. Sorta puts the lie to the rightwing myth that liberals are all urban minority "takers". We done be givers to our community, state, nation. The mantied loads are old bob wire, we are removing from the wilderness.

There are a lot of the little deers in there, most hunters won't pack out, if they cannot reach the deer with a vehicle they won't take it out. Motor dependent. Lots and lots of bears.

One we got last week (and I'm still feeling it) was over 5 miles in with a drop of over 1000 feet. These Deer are small enough one guy can pack one out that is boned. The fact that most won't is why the hunting is good way back in there.

I have never understood deer hunting, I realize that it is important to many people, but, I'd rather buy a side of beef. Or if I were to take my rifle after an herbivore, it would be an elk, much better tasting, and actually hard to get close to. The last few bucks I have seen I could have taken with a hammer......

The little deers, are just that, little buggers. A few weeks ago I had a buck in front of my horse and myself, on the trail, looking like he was going to contest the right of way. I thought "this could get real interesting real quick", but he stepped off the trail and wandered on. Around here the bucks have gathered their does, and have very satisfied expressions on their faces, I'd feel real bad for wiping that expression off, with my Winchester.
