The little deers, are just that, little buggers. A few weeks ago I had a buck in front of my horse and myself, on the trail, looking like he was going to contest the right of way. I thought "this could get real interesting real quick", but he stepped off the trail and wandered on. Around here the bucks have gathered their does, and have very satisfied expressions on their faces, I'd feel real bad for wiping that expression off, with my Winchester.
Where I live, they're so numerous as to be a serious driving hazard. I have no problem with thinning them out.

I used to commute 15 miles from one Sierra town to another on a motorcycle, I kept it under 40 the whole time, as seeing 20-30-40 deer along the roadway was an every day occurrence. I figured if I actually wanted to eat one I would just weld bars on the front of my truck and nail one on the roadway.

The funny part of hunters is, only about 10% ever get a buck. Using hunters to keep the deer population down is like using a garden hose to put out a house fire.

We were lazy at my first CDF station. The local F&G patrolman would call us when he came across clean roadkill and we'd bring it back, hoist it on the hose tower tackle and dress/wrap/freeze all in one morning. Really helped bring down meal costs.

At one point I worked in an isolated fire station, a couple of poachers killed a couple of spikes,, we got the carcasses, dressed them, saved the head and hide for Department of Wildlife, and got the meat. young tender, but I still prefer beef.

Thanks, I do think that the cure for what ails us is to get out side, go camping, and or do something for others.

That won't be a problem for long with the status of Mt Lions now. F and G said they are tracking 22 in the area they used to track 2.

I like the fact that success rate runs 8%. I haven't been skunked for a long, long time.

I'll say. Plus, I can get my CO ELk and then get to barter with some of the guys that come back from Alaska. I really like Caribou!! Toss in a plains Antelope and I'm set for the year.
