I'm am making this trip later this month. What is the best route, both fastest and/or most interesting? In other words, I'm willing to take a slower route if it is more interesting. I thought the Hoover dam new bypass might be interesting, but does seem to take me way out of the way.

Go through Kelso, stop for lunch at the Railroad Depot. A slice of an earlier time in America.

Thanks, the highways look a little sketchy through Kelso, but yeah, those are the kind of places I find "interesting"...

Not sketchy at all, although I don't know what a "sketchy" road is. It is a paved road. I know a fellow who lives in Palm Springs and did contract work in Vegas, that was his route. He liked lunch at the Depot

You should be fine barring any breakdowns of course. You don't need to fear overheating as it's cool and you probably ain't driving a jalopy anyway.

I have summoned Twinkle Toes to weigh in with her back roads route between her home in PS and the glamour and glitz of LV.

One of the best things you can do is get this book; 50 mysterious places in the Mojave desert

Take some time, make the trip a good one.

Ok, my Miss Cleo-like powers were going all cray-cray and I had this really strong and unshakable feeling - quite eerie, in fact - that "El Fontuckito" was using some kind of telekenesis or something to get me to bust up in here for you all!!! So .... here I am!

So like .... when I am forced to travel to and from Vegas and Palm Springs, I take the route through Morongo, Yucca Valley (Highway 62), 29 Palms, Amboy, Kelso, Nipton - past some old railroad depot. Sorry - can't remember if I get on 247 or not. I just know where I have to turn to get onto the next road by little landmarks. I don't even have to get onto the 15 until I'm well past all the Vegas traffic, then I take the side streets and stuff to avoid the strip cuz I can't stand the traffic congestion.
