As bad as Bakersfield is, I think El Centro is worse.

Pretty bad example to mention right now. A college kid from UC Santa Barbara recently went coo-coo and shot and stabbed multiple victims. Before killing himself, he wrote that he planned this massacre because he didn't understand why he hadn't lost his virginity yet even though he had a fancy car and lots of money. It's like the LA stereotypical money-obsessed d-bag on steroids.

I"ve lived in El Centro. Never been to Bakersfield but I have a hard time believing it could be worse than El Centro.
