Took the dog out for a walk to make sure the ocean was still there. It's our new ritual. Pouring down rain, but warm. Figured we could come back home and get dry. The dog thought I was nuts for a minute, then got busy chasing seagulls.

Life is good.
Made it to CC eh?

Check out Jed Smith's redwoods on a clear day

I did! Loving it! Can't wait to go check out the redwoods. This time when I drove to CC from Redding, I took I-5 up to Grants Pass, and 199 down to CC. The first time I came here I took 299 from Redding to Arcata and it was too windy and mountainous for me. Unfortunately, I was in the dark when I drove down 199, and was so tired and the windy road and the headlights were wearing me out, since 199 does get really windy the closer you get to CC.

And then I realized how BIG the trees were on the sides of the road!!! Gave me goosebumps and I was so excited that they'd be so close.

You know I actually stayed in Loleta back in 1975. I was a very young hippy and was hitchhiking to WA state with a friend, and we stayed at his brother's house in Loleta. I remember becoming one with the floor after smoking something LOL! I also remember Loleta being very green.

Anyway, only been here a week, and so far too tired to do more than walk my dog to go make sure the ocean is still there every day. The tide was WAY out this afternoon. The local news says this year's crabs are really fat and meaty. Can't wait to try some out!

My wife lived in Gaske for a few months, while she was working for the Superior Court there in CC.

Hope you are getting plenty of rain so the Eel River gets back up to level. Is the Eel source up your way?

Shoot, I don't even know yet. I remember reading a while back on the local newspaper facebook page something about increasing water flow on a river for the salmon, but I don't know any of the local stuff yet. Except, I did buy the Sunday paper and the headlines were about the crab season. I love living somewhere where the crab season is on the front page of the paper.

Batten down your hatches, chuckmann. There are three more storms coming. We're at 105% of normal for the year but it's going to take more than filled reservoirs and snow-capped mountains to replenish the depleted groundwater. It's a start, though.
