I'm not totally influenced by Native American rights to this and that. If a graveyard can be moved for other Americans, then why not for Native Americans? Why different rules? At some point, white, red, black, white, needs to quit having special rights. When does the "guilt" end?

So sorry about slavery and the Trail of Tears, but that was a long time ago. Can we work under the same laws now, please?
Sorry the link didn't work. It works for me. Here's another link that gives the history of the issue, which took place mostly in the 1980's. The other link gives more analysis and commentary, which is helpful.

There are different rules in part because of the US treaty obligations to Native Americans. However, in the cases involving rights to practice religion, the Supreme Court has consistently come down against Native Americans, in large part because Native American religion doesn't look like standard Western organized religion. So there's a subtle prejudice built into people's minds, because they're not familiar with it. There are no church buildings, worship takes place in nature. There's usually nobody officiating who looks like a priest. Sometimes the places of worship are ad-hoc sweat lodges. So to most people, it doesn't look like a "real" religion. In deciding Native American cases, it generally takes a very conscientious judge willing to do a lot of background research to come to an understanding of how the society works and thinks, in order to make a fair decision.

Pardon the digression, folks. Back to your regularly-scheduled bickering, now.

We got some of California's rain here in NM yesterday. Is the rain ongoing? It's only overcast here, now... but we could really use more moisture.

It's been intermittent here. Yesterday I thought it would be safe to go to Walmart without a rain jacket, after it had been raining off an on, but had stopped completely. Came out of Walmart, and it was POURING cats and dogs - no cows and elephants LOL! Was soaked to the skin by the time I got to the car.

This morning it was raining lightly, then stopped and the sun even came out this afternoon. It was glorious! Went out for a walk - with the rain jacket ha ha - and didn't need it, of course. I am thinking this might be the safe way to dress here in CC, though. Wear a tee-shirt under a rain jacket, cuz you just never know.

Not silly you. . Elsewhere it runs from July 1st to June 30th. Those dates don't make sense in California.

Whoa Nelly! It was a bit windy when I got back from Brookings today around 2pm, stopped at Point St George, walked on the beach - windy but mild out. And about 30 minutes ago, after I've been safely back in my apt since around 3pm, a serious storm just blew in! Rattling the windows, blowing and raining like mad! Glad I came back when I did.

You too? Haven't checked the news. Hooray for the rain!

Haha! Sounds like you are getting the North Coast treatment. Hooooray for the rain!

In interviewed for a job at Humboldt State a few years back (my alma mater). We were standing outside a building and it was raining like no tomorrow. My host and I just looked at each other and smiled. Gotta love the winter rains!!!!

Yeehaw! This new storm is kicking butt! Waves crashing like mad out there. Warning on the harbor's facebook page to stay away from jetties, etc. The wind is shaking the building and it's raining buckets. Yay!

It's warm, too. I'm not surprised this is from Hawaii - I think they're calling it the Pineapple Express. Yahoo!
