Hey guys, i'm a 23 year old male that is looking for a place to move this winter. I currently live in Colorado near Vail because Im a huge snowboarder, but I feel like Id like to move somewhere a little warmer for a year or two. I love mountains, outdoor activities, singles nightlife. I am a vegetarian and I am always working out and doing outdoor activities. I would love to live near a beach so I could take up surfing. I have a year of construction experience and am a very hard worker and I would consider looking for a job in construction or something similar. So a city with a decent job outlook in construction and trades would be ideal. I would also prefer to live somewhere with a slightly lower cost of living, just so I dont have to work my ass off just to survive. I hope that gives you an idea of what im looking for, I would really appreciiate any help. Thank you !

Can you give us some numbers--a budget? How much you expect to earn, how much you expect to pay in rent?

I don't think too much new construction is happening near the coast. That would be inland, and it is DEFINTIELY warmer there in the summer. But it would be near the mountains. I am thinking of Southern California and perhaps the Central Valley if you're looking at Bay Area environs.

Well if I stayed here in the mountains I would be looking at making around 3000/month and would be paying around 800 for rent. If workers in california are anything like workers out here in colorado, my midwestern work ethic will get me a decent job. 1000 for an apt/room at max

Man, if we had a dime for every one of these "I want to live at the beach, I want to do it for cheap and I want a well paying job too" we'd all be rich! We need a sticky called "It aint happening" and drop all these threads in there

I didnt say that I wanted to live at the beach. I said near. That means driving distance. 1000/month isnt "cheap" and 3000/month isnt a "well paying job". You can live in Vail for less than 1000 a month. Dont tell me theres nothing around that in the state of California. Moderator cut: see note

LOL, oh boy. $1k won't even get you a tiny 1 bedroom here in Anaheim 15 miles from the ocean and in the heart of the Mexican ghetto. You have no clue what you are talking about. Vail? LOL. Do some research kid....

There is a town near Shasta, where there is snowboarding. They recently had a fire destroy quite a bit of the town. You might look into that. But it is not near the beach. And the oceans north are a bit cold but people still surf.

If you want to keep your rent under $1000, and be near the beach, you will have to be a roommate. There are very few places that are decent for less.

He's actually a regular, and has a reputation of being... blunt.
It's the "beach" word that gets peoples eyes rolling. Lots of people would love to live "near" the beach even if it's a 30 minute drive.
You must realize that California coast is insanely expensive. Southern California is bad enough, and the Bay area is prohibitively insanely expensive.

Saying that, I have seen rooms for rent for about a thousand where I live in Orange county... or you could look for a roommate situation.

I couldn't tell you about construction jobs.

Anyway, I might suggest you narrow your search of where you're interested and then come out and see with your own eyes. Drive through Irvine and Newport, then drive through Santa Ana which is right next door. It should be very interesting.
