I thought I'd put this thread in the general California forum since some of you may include the cities of Claremont, Pomona, La Verne, and San Dimas in the IE, which I don't agree on.

So, here's what I've wondered just now:

Why did the Inland Empire develop, but NOT the Coachella Valley?

Wait, hold up. I think I might have an answer to that one, and that answer would be... that the CV is way too hot (for most people), way too cold, pretty isolated geographically, has a pretty limited job source, has cheaper housing than parts of the IE (I'd imagine), near the Salton Sea, not much nightlife, and, the least surprising of all, is an outlying desert area! Ooh, how shocking!

There, that's my take on this question. Does THIS sum it all up, huh?

So, why didn't the Coachella Valley develop again, I ask? Oh, wait. That's right! Because this so-called "metro area," that is the Coachella Valley, is NOT of that much importance, nor does it have very many ways for entertainment and/or amenities! So, instead, us residents here in the Valley get left out, ignored, and forgotten by virtually 95% of the State as if this area did not even exist in the first place, much in the same way that the Palo Verde Valley, Imperial County (yes, all of it), Chiriaco Summit/Desert Center/Lake Tamarisk, and Needles do! Heck, even the Victor Valley, the Barstow Area, and the Antelope Valley do not get left out, ignored, and forgotten as much. I'm serious. I was born and raised here in the Coachella Valley and I did not hold anything back!

Okay, rant over...

BTW, if anyone ever plans to relocate to the Coachella Valley, please DO expect lots of culture shock! For looking for a place to buy or rent, my advice is to look into Palm Springs (the southern and western sections), the Mission Lakes Country Club in the city of Desert Hot Springs, the new developments in Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells (don't even bother looking there unless you're EXTREMELY well off), La Quinta (if you can't find something in this city, you might as well either look into the LQ Cove, or just elsewhere) Bermuda Dunes, the newly-developed sections (north of the 10) in Indio, and/or The Vineyards area in Coachella (yes, I actually recommend an area of Coachella). The other areas, such as Mecca, Thermal, Sky Valley, Thousand Palms, Whitewater, other sections of the nine main CV cities, etc., are "hit-and-miss" for the most part. IF you somehow can't find something in any of these areas of the Coachella Valley that I'd recommend, then you may as well just look elsewhere in California.

Now, I'd like to hear your thoughts and opinions on this thread's question.

So, to recap, why did the Inland Empire develop, but NOT the Coachella Valley?

Any answers, thoughts, and/or opinions are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Simple answer is that most of the IE is right next to LA/OC and commutable to those jobs. Coachella Valley is way too far and remote from the “city”.

I never said that Claremont was in the IE. I and most others don't think that.

Coachella Valley has developed a ton over the last 15 years. What do you want!?
Your rant is useless.

Now, now... Let's not turn this into a heated argument and stay civil, shall we?

Not technically but I'd say culturally it is. Claremont fits in more with the IE cities to it's immediate east. I mean it is the very last city before crossing county lines.

The San Bernardino area has a very long history (by California standards) going back to the Spanish Trail, a Mission, early Mexican settlers, Mormon settlers, orange groves, the railroad through Cajon Pass. Being a crossroads to so much commerce San Berdoo should be a thriving metropolis.

So the real question is... why did the Coachella Valley attract lots of money and develop into high end resorts while San Bernardino remains a pit hole to this day? San Berdoo had a big head start.

The casinos (Spotlight 29, Agua Caliente, etc) in the Coachella Valley are still fairly new.
