To all you land lords whining about profits... What if theres a huge natural disaster, say earthquake tomorrow and in the aftermath one store is selling gallon jugs of distilled water for
$1000 each claiming they need to make a profit...

Let's get real here. The only thing that is really outrageously expensive here in L.A. County is rent... and gas. Why is the rent $1200 for a small studio apt. in Long Beach, and let's be honest, ghetto area? There's no reason a tiny apt. should cost that much AND in a crappy neighborhood too.

Most people work for wages, not big salaries. There is a growing gap between wages and rents. Landlords can still make a nice profit while not price gouging renters.

Who the **** are you to tell other people how much they can, or can't charge for something they own?

Plenty of socialist/communist countries in the world if you'd like to move? Oh wait, they're all moving here.

Must not be so great.

The bigger question is why do have have sanctuary city in this state. More people, more demand for housing. Have you thought about it. If you vote for conflicting policies, that’s what you get.

You have sanctuary cities in California for one reason.

REASON: Low income immigrants from other countries (especially Mexico, south through South America often illegal, are fueling the growth in population in California. American in and out migration to and from other states, California has been losing population for many years. This is why

But immigrants have greatly increased the number of residents in the state. The Democratic Machine in California, counts them as future voters, and they know from experience that the majority of them, will back the Democratic Party. It is all about power, and politics.

Yes, people who can’t stand the one party politics have moved to other states.

This is a totally different situation . People need water to survive . People do not need to live in Long Beach or Oakland or Los Angeles or any other high cost California city to survive .

Actually most of the country doesn’t even live in California .

If you want to understand why a landlord has to rent for a certain amount you can do an experiment . Find a rental property for sale and take a look at how much mortgage will be then add , taxes , insurance any utilities you would have to pay , cost for maintaining property , gardener , attorney fees , the list goes on .

Then see how much you are left with . Most property in Southern CA is being advertised at a 3% return.. that’s if you are lucky and nothing goes wrong most brokers also don’t include all actual expenses .

I notice this argument when people talk about businesses too . “That place is charging $10 for a sandwich they must make a fortune !” In reality they are lucky to make a dollar profit off that sandwich and in CA they are being forced soon to pay minimum $15 hour which means no profit unless they raise prices . It’s a gamble as consumers are price sensitive as you demonstrated with your post about saying $1200 for a studio is “too high”

Prices should be based on market prices , are studio apartments in Long Beach sitting empty at $1200?
If the rent was too high they would be sitting empty right ?

What a load of nonsense. Illegal immigration has declined steadily since the recession ... and even gone negative numbers. Look it up.

And legal immigration are mostly well educated and wealthy.

Who are leaving the state are poor and lower middle class.

You can look that up too.

Well said. But it’s a lot easier to blindly hate and vilify others behind the shroud of ignorance. It’s not nice to deprive people of their simple joys in life.
