Hey, I'm a Republican and I don't give a **** about abortion, birth control, gay marriage or marijuana. I've got my own life to lead.

All things the democrats have controlled for years.

Immigration, legal and illegal, is federally controlled ... not state.

Homelessness is economic ... not political ... and is worse in cities where real estate costs are skyrocketing due to prosperity.

Income taxes in California are tiered so that only the notably wealthy pay rates higher than common in many states.

Anyone who spends the multiple thousands and 10’s of thousands it takes to relocate - because of license plate fees and $30 a month more in their gas budget ... is short a few fries in their Happy Meal.

But I couldn’t be happier than to have as many people leave for whatever reasons they want.

I’ll stay behind to sweep up and keep an eye on the place ...

Yeah, we’ve noticed you cryin’ about it plenty.

Sad

Probably, but there were some prominent OC GOP politicians who were very interested in stoking cultural issues. John Briggs and Pete Knight pushed the Briggs and the Knight initiatives, respectively, to go after LGBT people in the 1970s and even as recently as 2000 (Prop 22).

Sanctuary cities, and a sanctuary state are as local as you can get.

The question was, why is the Republican party getting smaller. I've answered it a dozen times, but you folks keep trying to convince me my opinion is wrong.

It's my opinion.

Some people choose to believe this myth that California is really this great economic engine. Sure, a lot of new arrivals are "high earners"... new employees at Silicon Valley firms, people with huge student loan debt and still can't afford to live there, who are prime candidates to bail in just a few years when they're established in their careers. Meanwhile, their employers are expanding in other states.

I always love the "But CA is the xth largest economy in the world!" line. The biggest guy in the room can have cancer and be dying, while all of the "lesser" folks will be around decades after he's gone.

I am so glad to have left CA in the rear-view mirror. It did nothing but take from me. I'm saving thousands in taxes, living far better, experiencing more freedom... and I get much better roads and water. We're in the middle of a desert, and people are hosing off their driveways and wondering why that's remarkable to us. Meanwhile; wonderful, progressive California burns and yowls about droughts while welcoming in waves of "refugees and immigrants" all eager for a monthly check.

Enjoy your state, Californians.
And, at the end of the day and the end of your rant...you still live in Chandler, AZ.

I can see why you're upset.

Sanctuary jurisdictions exist all across the US including in red states. They are overwhelmingly supported by police departments ... including police chiefs’ national organizations. Pennsylvania - a state that tipped to Trump you will recall - has 18 sanctuary jurisdictions alone. Sanctuary jurisdictions do not control immigration, in any case ... only the federal government has standing to enforce immigration laws.

I haven’t tried to convince you of anything with regard to the Republican Party. I have only pointed out factual flaws in your own declarations. It’s a hobby of mine.

Great job on "killing them with facts"

In the last twenty years or so about two million people have moved out of California for other states. Many are white and I'd wager most are Republican (don't say "source" - I'm just guessing). The white population continues to vote pretty much 50/50 for Republicans and Democrats. Depending on the candidate it will tip one way or the other. African-Americans overwhelmingly vote Democrat (over 90%). This is a given. Latinos vote about two thirds Democrat - that can vary a bit depending on candidate. Asians vote about 70% Democrat. This doesn't vary much regardless who is in the White House. The white population (that 50/50 split group) has decreased from 57% in 1990 to 38% today. The percentage of minorities who are eligible to vote has risen over time as more are born here or become naturalized. Given voting trends among the groups it stands to reason that the Republicans were eventually going to get to the point they can't win a state wide office. It is changing demographics brought on by domestic migration and immigration over the past 30 or 40 years. It was inevitable. What has happened in California is now starting to occur in other places around the country. Texas and Arizona will probably soon join Virginia as a "purple" state for the same reasons. Florida too. Other states will follow (look at how close the governor's race was in once solidly Republican Georgia).

And yes, if you own a home in California, most likely you have a million dollars in assets.
That's silly, there are places all over the state that are quite affordable, the median home price in Sacramento is lower than in Reno. We moved back to California from Nevada as soon as my husband retired and we're very happy here. I get it if you don't like California but the constant yammering about how awful it is gets boring after a while.
