Yep. Kern County is going to be a big time leader in Renewable-Green Energy. Wind and Solar specifically. This project will be breaking ground sometime this year.

This is one producer in one field. There are many more producers and fields where similar projects could become reality in the future.

Natural gas would probably be the preferred cheaper method to create steam to extract the oil but with California mandates to use greater amounts of renewable energy solar could eventually be required for all heavy oil producers.

With such terrible air quality it seems this project will clean up the air a bit.

The air quality is trending better with each passing year and decade since the early 90's or so. And that is despite the growth in the Valley and the State. Every little thing helps and with electric and hybrid vehicles the future of transportation the long term outlook is good. The southern valley will likely always be ranked last or close to it due to geography but somewhere in the US has to be ranked last even if major improvements are made throughout the entire state and country. I try not to get caught up in the rankings as much as I do the improvements.

Yeah but cost of living is out of control, and check out the rents/house prices.

Unless you make 200-300k, you won't be able to afford to live there. But if you bought during the recession, home values were worthless, and now they're worth almost a million dollars.

Hey Kevroqs, I noticed your in Reno or nearby - 130 east of Sac. A coworker of ours just retired there. Curious how you like it there? Not too far from Tahoe, right? How's the weather? Just curious.

Perhaps your right. But the fact remains it is happening in CA in a degree not seen in other states or countries.

COL has no effect on innovation. Desirable areas are usually expensive. Check out Hong Kong, Paris, Berlin, London. These places make the Bay Area look like a bargain.

I agree that every “innovation” on that list ... sucks. Stupid. Unnecessary garbage. Social media is ultimately a destructive human force. Along with all AI. (The real good stuff California produces is vegetables and fruit.)

That all said - whether it’s good or worthy isn’t the point. It’s what stupid humanity gobbles up. And thus it’s driving the machine of “culture” and “progress”.

California is a juggernaut, like it or not.

And I don’t.
