I left California for professional reasons over 40 years ago. Great move.

However, ALL those Conservative Californians have moved into Idaho and eastern Washington and bringing their values with them and NOT being sensative to local residents.

They don't understand local conservatives or local history.

When you move for political reasons....learn the history and culture of the area that your moving into. Don't assume just because by California standards Idaho and eastern Washington are conservative that they have the same "conservative" values than you.

I live in a conservative county....I get my electricity, sewer, water, phone, internet, and cable TV from the County government. Before you move here and sign up for Spectrum.....find out why the county government provides all those services.

Yes it is a terrible place. There are really only a couple of areas worth living in, near the university and also on the extreme northeast side, oh and I forgot, the country club area may be ok still. Many other areas in between are questionable. You wouldn't be able to purchase in a decent area in the $290k range. I spent a lot of time in this city, it's bad news.

Rep to you. I feel the same way about Texas.

Sounds like us: we left CA and moved to the DC area in 1981. We have never looked back. At one time, when my parents were still alive we did give some thought to moving to Paradise, CA which was then, relatvily conservative. The move did not work out so we gave up on anymore thoughts of relocating back to CA. To this day we are not sorry. Of course CA has some wonderful qualities, but the cons, for us way outweigh the pros and yes, politics plays a part in our choice of where we live

So, this conservative county is practicing socialism? Interesting.

This might surprise you: my closest, life long friends whom I've known since high school are all liberal. Two of them are Sanders socialists, two more are gay and married to their partners. I love them all. You can imagine the discussions we get into. The discussions are just that though. It's a give and take, point counter point discussion. I see validity in some of their views, they see validity in some of mine. We don't shout each other down, or demean. (I would be willing to bet that if all of us here were sitting across from each other in a room that this entire conversation would be a lot less demeaning. There's a certain amount of keyboard Warrior that happens in the isolated bubble of the internet).

I didn't fully realize how conservative I was until about halfway through Obama's presidency, and my views have only become more conservative since. Mostly on fiscal and immigration issues. My first votes after I turned 18 were for Clinton, Gore. But even their politics would seem conservative in today's political climate. Especially since both of them and Obama were for strong immigration laws and a wall (as were Pelosi, Boxer, Schumer and others who now blame Trump for everything)

I changed my political affiliation from Democrat to Republican in 2011/12, the vilification of law enforcement by Obama led the way nationally, the percieved misuse of my tax dollars led the way locally. While I was now technically a Republican who leaned left (RINO), as the father of a teenage girl, it was the murders of Kate Steinle and Mollie Tibbets that fully solidified my position on immigration in this country, and simultaneously broke whatever last connection I had to the DNC. While I'm sympathetic to the plight of immigrants, we are a nation of laws and without laws we are nothing. This state and our elected officials are flaunting our immigration laws and that's something I can't get behind.

So, I and my wife feel like we're on an island. We've lived here our whole lives, we own a home, we have great friends, our daughter has a great School, but the elected officials and the decisions that they make don't represent us, and I don't think they ever will as this state is only going to go more left. Maybe to the point where the AOC's of the world make Newsom look like Alex Jones and tax rates become 40%.

That's the long and the short of it.

I prefer not to discuss politics myself. I wasn't planning on talking politics on this thread, I simply wanted to voice my opinion on why we wanted to leave. You can see how this thread has devolved though, it's emblematic of where we are as a nation. I much prefer to talk about sports. Speaking of, if Jimmy Garoppolo can manage to stop getting laid out by Defenders he might survive to the end of the season, and the Niners might make a good run into the post season.
Very well laid out NorCal. If we all practiced this, I have a feeling the "divide" we see would not exist near as much. You have my utmost respect, not that you were looking for it....but I reflect many of these sentiments. It's amazing how having a child, esp a daughter, can change our views no mater how passionate we may have been about them before.

And, if it was 1994 or later three strikes was in effect and robbery is a strike offense so if their prior was a strike offense they would have to serve twice their term, or about 30-40 years total with a gun enhancement. So it either wasn't a home invasion robbery or you were misinformed about their sentence.

And no one ever just happens to get arrested when they come home from shooting black powder pistols, I won't speculate as to what might have happened but I'm sure there is more to it than what you are telling us.
Wow. It was 1990 or 1991. There were two girls and a five year old in my house. One was the mother and in the living room with her son. The other was in my office with me when the front door opened and suddenly there were two guys in my office. One had a SS tattoo on his neck and I was staring down the barrel of the sawed off Ruger 10-22 he was holding. The other had a sawed off shotgun and spider web tattoo on his elbow. He took the girl into the living room with the others. The girl cried through the whole thing. Rifle man took me around looting and then had me lay face down on my bed while he tied my hands. I wondered how much the bullet through the back of my head was going to hurt.

I testified in court. It was almost thirty years ago. Maybe they plead out to a lower charge. I heard they got two and three years. It seemed like they were out much sooner. Thanks for letting me relive that in such great detail.

About a year later, I was riding my motorcycle back from near Aguanga. I had two black powder revolvers on me. One on my hip unloaded and the other in a case strapped to the back of the bike still loaded. Got pulled over for speeding. Once the cop saw the pistol on my hip, I was staring down the barrel of his Glock. When he got me to the jail, a cop in the car next to him asked, "What you got there?". He twirled both my pistols, one in each hand, and said, "I got me the Outlaw Josie Wales!". Because a portion of my shirt covered the pistol on my hip, that was carrying concealed. And carrying a loaded pistol in California is apparently illegal. So yes, it was because of how I was transporting them. Something that as I pointed out, was not and is not illegal in Arizona.

So next time you want to call me a liar, please come out here and do it to my face. Please do.

I really appreciate you sharing a difficult story. Unfortunately, snarkiness and being a smart azz is easy on the devices and keyboards. I'm glad you are in AZ now. And yup, I have a beautiful wife and two little ones. I carry in my truck and have many, many rounds for each one. It's oddly funny....the first person an unarmed citizen is going to hide behind in a case of attempted violence against them is the armed person, plain and simple. But, let arrogance be their demise. It always is.
