CDC's guidelines aren't it. I posted a link to California's E/O and excerpted the relevant parts. If you're not seeing them, it's by choice. An improvised mask made from a tshirt, scarf, etc. are literally mentioned under the heading "what is a mask?". The state accepts the idea that a person with a hiked up tshirt over their nose and mouth is, for all intents and purposes, wearing an acceptable mask.

I saw it and, in fact, quoted it; scroll back. It's outdated.

Sorry; I don't agree. You're reading into that.

And what's your purpose for posting this?

That is not what I understood from months ago when the CDC was establishing their recommendations -- is there new research that indicates otherwise?

LOL...I love how everybody is a tough guy until an actual tough guy enters the mix.

That's sad. I wish certain people in the media would stop politicizing the mask issue. If somebody wants to be political, fine then, let's talk about free helicopter rides for all the politicians who supported globalization and the idea that it's "xenophobic" if we don't allow everybody from everywhere to bring their diseases here. And furthermore, let's solve the housing crisis by invading China and taking their real estate. How's that for politics then?

It's not outdated. The state order has not been replaced by anything newer. California still references that order, with that exact language, today. The guidelines from the CDC don't somehow supersede our governor's directive. They can't and those aren't even orders. The state says tshirts, scarves, etc. are all considered face coverings for the purpose of the emergency declaration. There is no getting around that fact.

Read back. Someone else didn't believe that California accepts a hiked up tshirt as a legitimate face covering. The E/O states explicitly otherwise.

Like this?

Coronavirus: Face mask dispute leads to shooting outside Family Dollar store, police say

If you're going to be a punk and shoot at an employee who tells you to wear a mask or leave, at least be a better shot.

edit: An improvised tshirt is still better than nothing, right? The guy who wore a klanhood in my area was forced by employees in the store to take it off. Who endangered the public in that incident? The guy who complied with the (at the time) county order, or the employees who acted?
The June 18th order ALSO says this:

Discard
cloth face coverings that:
• No longer cover the nose and mouth
• Have stretched out or damaged ties or straps
• Cannot stay on the face
• Have holes or tears in the fabric

That doesn't change anything concerning the definition of a face covering though. The order allows for improvised masks made with tshirts, scarves, towels and sweatshirts. One of the few areas within it with any level of specificity is in the section I quoted.

A guy with a tshirt hiked up over his face is complying with the E/O. Is it practical? not really. But the language of the order indisputably allows for that.

This is really a silly argument.
