The only things about California that I like any more are the weather. And the people are fairly nice as far as everyday interactions go (Despite complaints about rudeness, they're nicer than East Coast people for the most part).

But with all the fires and whatnot, even the weather isn't what it used to be. And there are nice people in other places, too.

I'll still miss the weather, but it's not enough to keep me here.

The job is the hard thing. I won't be able to replace the pay / benefits of my job if/when I leave and my investment portfolio isn't large enough to make that not matter.

And the eathquake potential scares me a lot. NorCal and SoCal are overdue for 7.0+ earthquakes.

It's (far) more bizarre people continue to ask the question. Where do you suggest almost forty million of us go? :-)

Cost of living still remains high and the state population continues to grow

My mate has relatives who are still convinced that its the best place to be and that it further extends some kind of coveted status on them for being California residents. I still wonder how this mystique fits into the reality of a place thars burdened by overpopulation and a host of problems unique to this location.

So why do people still want to live there? Do you think this is or will change? Whats the next destination for those who find California too troubled to move there?
One reason is that I'm sick of moving. I moved four miles across town five years ago and it was such a pain. I don't see yet another move as being worth the stress, regardless of how amazing these places supposedly are that people "flee" to.

Also, as for the OP, though I constantly hear about them on TV and the internet, I"ve never encountered an actual real human who cited any of those reasons as to why they were moving out of the state. Its always the typical reasons people move from any state or they wanted a bigger house somewhere.

Family and Friends keep me here in California and it's also home, but also despite the problems we face here,California still has many positive reasons for living here.

1) Mild Weather throughout most of our populated areas.

2) Wonderful Cities such as Los Angeles,San Francisco,San Diego and many other awesome smaller towns/cities all around the state.

3) Diversity of Scenery...Beaches,Valleys,Mountains,Deserts.

4) Diversity of Flora and Wildlife.

5) Diversity of People from all over the World.

6) Wonderful Amusement Parks,Zoo's,Entertainment,Special Events,Attractions.

7) Wide Range of Opportunities.

8) Were also closer to Las Vegas,Mexico and The Hawaiian Islands for weekend getaways.

California is not for everyone, but millions of people still call it home and choose to remain here, and people from all over the World still continue to move here.

Why does anyone care why people like to live somewhere? Not their business. If someone is happy in Utah or North Dakota, more power to them, why question it. Many of us are happy right where we are.

I’m moving to Rancho from Denver.

Prices are similar, I’ll miss the world class skiing/snowboarding but I could get used to warm weather. My wife’s family is in SoCal, so that’s why we are moving there. Rancho seems like a beautiful area and you can get a lot more for your money there than OC. I’m more of a mountain guy than a beach guy anyway.

I like dry climates and absolutely hate humidity, I lived in South Texas for a year and it was absolutely miserable. I’d rather live in -30 degrees all year than 80-110 with 100000000% humidity again.

California is one of the only places to offer beautiful weather year round IMO. Food is cheap in CA and there’s tons to do. I do prefer Denver because that’s my home, but California isn’t a bad option.

If I struggled financially I would move to Rapid City, SD, Billings, MT or Cody, WY. Beautiful areas with lots of great outdoor options. Cheap living too.

Where's "Rancho"? I don't think there is any city called just Rancho. There's Rancho Cucamonga, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rancho Santa Margarita and probably a couple more.

Good luck but I give it a year. Someone that prefers Wyoming or Montana will be miserable in Ca.

I love Denver! But it sounds as if you'll be happy in Rancho.
